Haason Reddick Jets Holdout

New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh comments on Haason Reddick still not reporting to camp ahead of NFL Week 1

The NFL regular season begins this week but New York Jets’ Haason Reddick remains a no-show at training camp. Head coach Robert Saleh commented Reddick’s absense this week as the Jets prepare to open up the 2024 NFL season on the road against the San Francisco 49ers.

Saleh used a pretty spot-on analogy about the situation during Tuesday’s media session.

To recap, Reddick has been M.I.A. for most of the offseason, leaving the Jets to practice and prep without their star pass-rusher. When asked if getting Reddick back would feel like an unexpected bonus, Saleh didn’t miss a beat.

“Yeah, it’s like finding change in the couch, I guess, right?” Saleh quipped. “No, he’s a special football player, and when he eventually gets here, he’s only going to help us.” [Source]

Gotta love the visual—finding a little extra something when you weren’t even expecting it. The Jets picked up Reddick in a trade with the Eagles back in March, and while he’s set to make $14 million this season, he’s been holding out for a new deal. Rumor has it that Reddick might’ve led the Jets to believe he was cool with his contract when the trade went down.

Haason Reddick’s holdout is starting to cost him big time. He’s already racked up $2.05 million in mandatory training camp fines—that’s $50K for each day he’s been out.

On top of that, Reddick has been hit with a $100K fine for missing minicamp, and he’s forfeited a $250K workout bonus. And that’s not even counting any other fines the Jets might throw his way.

Haason Reddick is already losing money. If he skips games, Reddick be looking at losing $791,666 per week. That number’s going to skyrocket fast if he continues his holdout.

Reddick’s no stranger to the spotlight, it just typically happens on the football field. Drafted 13th overall by the Cardinals in 2017, he signed with Philly before the 2022 season and immediately made his mark.

Over his last two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Haason Reddick racked up 27 sacks in 34 games, earning Pro Bowl honors both years.

Jets fans are definitely eager to see what he can do in New York, but that appears to be dead in the water unless Reddick gets a contract extension.

The big question now is if Haason Reddick carry his holdout into the regular season.

Based on what Jets GM Joe Douglas has been saying, it doesn’t seem like the team is in any rush to meet Reddick’s contract demands.
