Giants WR Darius Slayton posts on X to ensure there’s no mistaken identity with Darius Slay while the Eagles are in Brazil

Darius Slay and the Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for a unique Week 1 showdown tomorrow night against the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil and while reports of safety concerns are still making headlines across social media, Giants WR Darius Slayton wants to make sure there are zero cases of mistaken identity.

NFC East rival, New York Giants wide receiver, Darius Slayton, took to X to make sure there’s no confusion in Brazil ahead of tomorrow night’s game between the Eagles and Packers. Slayton doesn’t want to be mixed up in a case of mistaken identity with Darius Slay and in an attempt to separate himself from all things Brazil, he jumped on X to clarify the situation.

Slayton wrote “Dear people of Brazil my name is Darius SlayTON I play WR for the Giants i am innocent.” – which is hilarious given the fact that last week, the country of Brazil completely banned “X” so his plea to the people in São Paulo probably went unnoticed.

Darius Slayton doesn’t want to be mixed up for Darius Slay while the Eagles are in Brazil

Check the picture at the top of this post. There’s no way in hell anyone actually thinks Darius Slayton looks like Darius Slay right?

Anyways, while Slayton is just joking around, this all stemmed from Darius Slay making headlines when he voiced his concerns about the game in Brazil, calling the city’s crime rate “crazy” and refusing to allow his family to travel to the host country

As expected, Slay’s comments went viral, and let’s just say, they weren’t taken too kindly by some Brazilian fans.

Darius Slay on the Philadelphia Eagles playing in Brazil

“Week 1.. I can’t wait. But man, I do not wanna go to Brazil.. They already told us not to leave the hotel. They told us we can’t do too much, because the crime rate is crazy. I’m like ‘NFL, why would you wanna send us somewhere with a crime rate this high?’.. I told my family do not come down there.”

I don’t see the big deal with Slay’s comments but at the same time, maybe all of this is just slightly overblown, right?

Yes, I’m fully aware of all the reports about wearing the color green, Brazil issuing a country-wide ban of X, and the violence / crime rates in São Paulo but the rules handed out by team’s and the NFL are pretty standard in any American city too.

I mean seriously, I’m sure São Paulo is bad but I can’t help but laugh at anyone thinking it’s significantly worse than Philadelphia in terms of violence and crimes.

I’m sure there’s something behind Slay’s concerns with the environment in Brazil but I doubt that it would be different in any other location and the NFL is just taking extra precautions to avoid any issues while their teams are abroad.

For what it’s worth, Slay quickly realized the weight of his comments and did some damage control by issuing an apology on X – which again, is a blocked social media platform in Brazil.

“I want to apologize to anyone I offended, that wasn’t my intention. I’m Looking forward to playing in your beautiful country and I’ve heard yall are very passionate just like our amazing Eagles fans. Just a few more days, can’t wait!!!”

The apology was a bit much too. There’s no reason that Darius Slay, on his own podcast, has to apologize for discussing how he feels about taking his family to Brazil given all of the reports and rumors about the city and country hosting a Week 1 NFL games.

Plus, Phans of Philly has a few hundred Eagles fans traveling all over Brazil this week and the posts on social media look like a good time.

Let’s beat the Packers tomorrow night and get everyone home and locked in for the rest of the NFL season. Go Birds.
