Hit Parade: Phillies score season-high 16 runs, win sixth-straight game last night against the Marlins

The Philadelphia Phillies entered last night’s game against in Miami with little-to-no preparation against the Marlins’ starting pitching staff.

The scheduled starter for the Marlins, Edward Cabrera, was a late-scratch due to migraine-like symptoms with just over an hour before game time.

To put it as simply as possible…that did not matter.

The Phillies scored a season-high 16 runs on the night to win their sixth straight game as Zack Wheeler continued to show why he should be the outright favorite to win the National League Cy Young Award.

Wheeler dazzled through six-innings of work, allowing just two hits, one earned run, and a walk while striking out seven. The win marked the 14th of the season for Wheeler, who improved to 14-6 with a 2.59 ERA and a 0.96 WHIP on the year.

The plate, the Phillies wasted no time in doing as much damage possible over the first two innings. While the Philadelphia Eagles got off to a slow start in Brazil against the Packers, The Fightins scored three runs in the first and responded with four more in the second to jump out to a 7-0 lead against the Marlins.

Phillies 1st Inning:

Bryce Harper singles on a line drive to center fielder Cristian Pache. Kyle Schwarber scores. Trea Turner to 2nd. PHI 1, MIA 0

Bryson Stott singles on a ground ball to left fielder Kyle Stowers. Trea Turner scores. Bryce Harper to 3rd. PHI 2, MIA 0

J.T. Realmuto singles on a ground ball to shortstop Xavier Edwards, deflected by third baseman Connor Norby. Bryce Harper scores. Bryson Stott to 2nd. PHI 3, MIA 0

Phillies 2nd Inning:

Kyle Schwarber singles on a ground ball to center fielder Cristian Pache. Johan Rojas scores. PHI 4, MIA 0

Trea Turner homers (16) on a fly ball to left center field. Kyle Schwarber scores. PHI 6, MIA 0

J.T. Realmuto singles on a sharp line drive to center fielder Cristian Pache. Bryce Harper scores. PHI 7, MIA 0

I know it’s just the Marlins and they are complete ass but the production at the top of the lineup was incredible last night. Schwarber, Turner, and Harper combined to hit 8-for-15 with two home runs and 8 RBI on the night.

  • Kyle Schwarber: 2-for-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
  • Trea Turner: 3-for-5, 1 HR, 3 RBI
  • Bryce Harper: 3-for-5, 2 RBI

The Phillies lineup as a whole notched 22 hits and scored a season-high 16 runs on the night. It was the most hits they’ve had in a single game since they tallied a total of 23 hits on April 16, 2023 against the Cincinnati Reds.

All nine of the Phillies starters notched a hit last night. Four had three hits and it wasn’t just the top of the order producing. Johan Rojas had THREE doubles – marking the first player this season to accomplish that feat in the same game this season and the first time in his career.

The resurgence of Bryson Stott was on full display as well, with the Phillies second baseman going 2-for-5 from the plate with 2 RBI.

Heat Check: Bryson Stott Last 15 Games – .327 BA with two home runs and 7 RBI.

Last night’s win for the Phillies marked their sixth-straight as they continue to hold onto an eight game lead over the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets in the NL East standings. The win also gave the Phillies a one-game lead in the National League over the Los Angeles Dodgers. They lead the third place Milwaukee Brewers by four games.

Sitting at 85-56 on the season, the Philadelphia Phillies are yet again, the best team in all of Major League Baseball, leading the Dodgers by one game and the Baltimore Orioles by 3.5 games.

The Phillies will send Aaron Nola to the mound today at 4:10 pm, against Darren McCaughan looking for their seventh straight win.
