Eagles Fans Stunned Monday Night Football

Nightmare Fuel: Eagles fans left completely stunned on the ESPN broadcast of Monday Night Football following 22-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons

Eagles fans were left in absolute shambles after a gut-wrenching 22-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.

With 1:56 left and an 18-15 lead, the Eagles seemed ready to ice the Falcons and escape Lincoln Financial Field with a hard fought win in their home opener.

With two fresh first downs and Atlanta forced to burn their last two timeouts, Jalen Hurts and the offense had the game in their under control as they were faced a 3rd-and-3 at the Atlanta 10-yard line.

A touchdown would’ve sealed it, but even a first down could’ve let the Eagles run out the clock. Instead, Saquon Barkley dropped a wide-open pass that would have at the very least, converted for a first down in-bounds, allowing the clock to run out.

Saquon Barkley dropped it.

Philadelphia then settled for a field goal, giving Atlanta all the time they needed. The Falcons capitalized with a 70-yard game-winning touchdown drive with Kirk Cousins connecting with wideout Drake London in the right corner of the end zone on a 3rd-and-5 from the Philadelphia 7-yard line, tying the game.

Atlanta got hit with a 15-yard penalty after the score, pushing back the extra point to a daunting 48 yards. No problem for Younghoe Koo. He drilled the go-ahead extra point, giving the Falcons the lead and turning the momentum completely in their favor.

The Eagles got the football back, down one point with 34 seconds left on their own 30-yard line. On 1st-and-10, Hurts connected with Dallas Goedert for 13 yards and burned their second timeout. Now on the 43-yard line, Hurts threw a deep pass intended for Devonta Smith but it was intercepted by Jesse Bates at the Atlanta 32-yard line to ice the game.

The ESPN broadcast captured the pained faces of Eagles fans and needless to say there were no smiles in sight at the Linc.

Kyle Scott over at Crossing Broad caught up with fans following the game and received the same, miserable feedback as pictured above:

At this point, there’s no other option outside of rubbing a little extra salt in the wound. If I have to write through the pain, then I’ll be damned if I’m suffering alone.

The Eagles had a 99% chance of winning with under two minutes to play on Monday night. Per Next Gen Stats, the team had a 99.3 percent chance of winning with 1:56 left to play, giving the Falcons 0.7 percent chance at victory.
