The Taijuan Walker Exit Strategy: Someone made a GoFundMe to help get him out of Philadelphia

I’m up late night getting ready to head to New Orleans with the rest of the crew here at The Liberty Line and Phans of Philly and I stumbled upon a post that linked a GoFundMe for Taijuan Walker in effort to buy out his contract.

The reason is simply because “the Phillies can’t bring themselves to do it.”

Right now, it’s sitting at a smooth $85 and our dear friend Kevin Kinkead over at Crossing Broad already tossed $5.00 into the noble cause.

GoFundMe to Buyout Taijuan Walker’s Contract

Taijuan Walker has literally been horrible since the All-Star break LAST SEASON. I’ve been writing about how bad he’s been for over a year and it’s getting old at this point.

If the GoFundMe doesn’t work, then everyone should write a letter to John Middleton and Dave Dombrowski to make sure they know that we forgive them for handing Walker such a massive contract when everyone and their mothers knew he wasn’t that good to begin with.

If you’re stressing about the Phillies’ fifth starter right now, let me stop you there. Seriously, it’s the last thing anyone should be sweating over. With an October rotation led by Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, Ranger Suárez, and Cristopher Sánchez, do you really think a fifth starter is going to be a big deal come playoff time? Spoiler: they’re not.

The Phillies have four absolute studs anchoring the rotation—exactly what you need when the lights get brighter in October. The Phillies have 9 games left in the regular season, so let’s keep it real. Philly is sitting comfortably at the top of the NL East with a six-game cushion over both the Mets and an eight game lead over the Atlanta Braves.

So yeah, maybe if things were tighter, I’d care, but right now? Not even worth worrying about.

Plus, it’s not just about the division. The Phillies are neck-and-neck with the Dodgers, battling for the best record in the entire National League and Major League Baseball. So, it’s more about positioning and fine-tuning than stressing over who’s starting Game 162.

Pray that whoever slots into that fifth spot can at least keep things competitive over the next few weeks. That’s all you really need.
