CJ Gardner-Johnson had plenty to say following the Eagles 15-12 win over the New Orleans Saints

The Philadelphia Eagles may not have put on a show, but they’ll leave New Orleans with a gritty 15-12 win over the Saints, a crucial bounce-back after last week’s meltdown against the Falcons.

It wasn’t the fast-paced offensive explosion fans were hoping for, but hey, they say it’s about how you finish, right? After being down 3-0 heading into the fourth quarter, the Eagles’ offense finally woke up in time to pull off a road win and improve to 2-1.

Philadelphia’s defense deserves most of the credit for holding down the Saints, especially considering New Orleans had looked red-hot through the first two weeks of the season.

CJ Gardner-Johnson wasted no time getting in on the postgame banter. The former Saints defensive back took to Twitter after the final whistle with a not-so-subtle dig at his old squad.

CJ Gardner-Johnson: “Y’all favorite DB’s couldn’t chase a TE down”

That comment from CJ Gardner-Johnson was obviously aimed at the Saints’ secondary, who had no answer for Dallas Goedert. The Eagles’ tight end was a force all game, but his biggest moment came on a 3rd-and-16 during the game-winning drive.

More from CJ Gardner-Johnson:

With two Saints defenders crashing into each other on a busted coverage, Goedert turned a short Jalen Hurts pass into a 61-yard gain, setting Philly up in prime scoring position.

On that pivotal play to Goedert, the Eagles ran a well-executed mesh concept that led to two Saints defensive backs colliding, leaving Goedert free to take off down to the New Orleans 4-yard line.

With the wide receiver corps depleted, Dallas Goedert became the go-to guy, and he didn’t disappoint. Hauling in 10 catches for 170 yards, he posted the most receiving yards by an Eagles tight end in nearly six decades.

The Saints’ offense went from being on fire over the first two weeks of the season to running into an Eagles defense that completely shut them down.

Derek Carr came into this game with plenty of hype after lighting up the scoreboard in Weeks 1 and 2. He had been nearly flawless, completing almost 77% of his passes with five touchdowns and just one interception in his first two games.

But against the Eagles, Carr struggled to find rhythm, missing on 11 passes (two more than he had in the previous two games combined), throwing a pick, and getting sacked.

From there, Philly sealed the win, proving once again that they can find ways to get it done even when things look absolutely miserable on the football field. It wasn’t a highlight-reel performance, but the Eagles showed plenty of fight and will now turn their attention to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next weekend.
