Saquon Barkley & Nick Sirianni Sound Off on Jalen Hurts following their gusty win in New Orleans against the Saints in week 3
After a very strange start to the 2024 season for the Philadelphia Eagles, Hurts and company found themselves trailing the New Orleans Saints on the road in what felt like a game where the Birds would lose and fall to 1-2 on the season.
Ultimately, the Eagles would ek out a gritty 15-12 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, largely due to some late-game magic from tight end Dallas Goedert and running back Saquon Barkley. Both came up clutch when it mattered most, helping the birds escape with a win. Hnickead Coach Nick Sirianni’s game management left much to be desired, with questionable decisions that kept the Saints hanging around longer than they should have. The Eagles may have gotten the “W”, but there’s certainly plenty to clean up before their next game.
Let’s just call it what it is. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles stole one on Sunday September 22nd. They had no business winning that game, yet they still pulled it off. In large part due to the poise from Mr. Hurts himself.

"He's the most poised human being I've ever been around in my life."

“He played his butt off today,” Sirianni said. “Jalen Hurts is a winner. He’s a winner. He wins. You tell me when he hasn’t won. He’s a winner. And, man, I’m proud of him. I can’t say enough good things about his response. …
“He knows it’s the sum of all the plays that says who you are – not just one play that everyone is going to talk about. It’s not just one play. It’s the sum of all plays. And he’s the quarterback, and this guy’s a freaking winner. He won at Alabama. He won at Oklahoma. He’s been winning here over and over and over and over. And you know what? We’re the Philadelphia Eagles, so we understand we’re going to get criticism. But this dude’s a freaking winner. Jalen Hurts is a winner, and he won today.”
He’s not wrong. If you take away the turnovers, Jalen statistically played one hell of a game. Completing 29-of-38 passes for 311 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and ran eight times for 25 yards. Obviously context is largely important in this discussion due to how the game played out and how tough of an environment it was to get a win in.
