Milk Check Debunked: Eagles’ Reed Blankenship leads NFL in pass coverage grade
White defensive backs typically don’t make it in the NFL — it just is what it is. But don’t tell that to Eagles safety Reed Blankenship.
Three games into the 2024 season, Blankenship has been arguably the best safety in football. Per Pro Football Focus, he’s the third-highest grade safety, with an overall grade of 87.2. But more importantly, he’s the highest-graded safety in terms of coverage, holding a solid 86.7 mark in that category.
The Eagles have officially debunked the milk check
A few years back, Bills QB Josh Allen went on a podcast and mentioned that anytime there’s a white player in the secondary, he makes a ‘milk check’ call at the line — essentially saying they’re going to target the white guy. I honestly don’t take offense to that or blame Allen for making that call. Before Blankenship, white d-backs were terrorized.
But no longer.
The Eagles safety is having an All-Pro type of season thus far, recording two clutch interceptions, with the latest being the game-sealing pick against New Orleans.
As the great Antonio Brown once said, Reed Blankenship is, without a doubt, the Cracker of the Day.
