Lester Quinones agrees to a two-way contract with Philadelphia 76ers

Less than a week before media day, the Philadelphia 76ers made a final move to bolster their training camp roster. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the team signed guard Lester Quinones to a two-way deal.

Quinones, who has shown flashes of promise, will be looking to make an impact and carve out a role with the Sixers during camp.

With a two-way contract, he’ll have the opportunity to split time between the NBA and G-League, giving him a chance to develop and contribute at the highest level when called upon. This move adds depth to the backcourt as the Sixers prepare for the upcoming season.

The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly had interest in signing Lester Quinones back in July while they were exploring other trade and free-agent options, according to Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype. However, there’s now a bit of a roster dilemma.

The Sixers have already filled all of their two-way contract slots with Jeff Dowtin, David Jones, and rookie Justin Edwards.

To officially bring Quinones aboard, one of those three players would need to be cut. This creates an interesting decision for the Sixers’ front office as they weigh the potential of Quinones against their current two-way roster commitments.

What Lester Quinones brings to the 76ers

Lester Quinones is heading into the 2024-2025 NBA season as a third-year guard out of the University of Memphis. After spending his first two seasons with the Golden State Warriors on a two-way contract, Quinones showed flashes of his potential.

Last season, he averaged 4.4 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game, playing 10.6 minutes per contest across 37 games.

The third-year guard made a name for himself as a part of the Santa Cruz Warriors, Golden State’s G-League affiliate. In 15 games with the team, Quinones posted per-game averages of 23.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, on 31.4% from three on 9.3 nightly attempts.

While not being very efficient from long-range, Quinones has proven to be a high-volume shooter who can catch fire at any given moment as well as a solid defender off the point-of-attack.

Quinones does have a tendency to get into foul trouble fairly quickly and tries to do too much at times. But, the guard could develop into a high-quality perimeter shooter with time and patience.
