WATCH: Phillies fans react to embarrassing loss in the NLDS, claim it was one of the most devastating experiences ever
Phillies fans are going through it after their baseball team put up a miserable losing effort in the NLDS at the hands of their NL East rival New York Mets.
Devastated Phillies Fans on the Local News:
One thing is for sure. Courtney needs therapy.
If the Philadelphia Phillies losing to the New York Mets in the 2024 NLDS ranks No. 2 on your list of “Worst Things Ever” then you are a mental midget.
Lineup Changes: Here’s how the Phillies can win the World Series in 2025
I’m sorry but for everything that Philly sports fans have endured throughout history, the Phillies losing to the Mets doesn’t even rank in the Top 10 of worst moments over the past what, two decades?
- 2010: Flyers-Blackhawks Game 6 – Stanley Cup FinalsÂ
- 2021: Sixers-Hawks Game 5 – Eastern Conference Semifinals
- 2021: Sixers-Hawks – Game 7 – Eastern Conference Semifinals
- 2022: Union-LAFC – MLS CupÂ
- 2018: Eagles-Saints – NFC Divisional Round
- 2022: Phillies-Astros Game 4 – World Series
- 2023: Eagles-Chiefs – Super Bowl 57
- 2011: Phillies-Cardinals – Game 5 – NLDS
- 2023: Sixers-Celtics Game 7 – Eastern Conference Semifinals
- 2019: Sixers-Raptors Game 7 – Eastern Conference Semifinals
In case you didn’t know, the Philadelphia Phillies entered 2024 with sky-high expectations after coming agonizingly close to glory in back-to-back seasons.First, they reached Game 6 of the 2022 World Series before losing to the Astros. Then, they made it to Game 7 of the 2023 NLCS only to fall to the Arizona Diamondbacks in back-to-back games at Citizens Bank Park.
Fine. Whatever.
Bringing back most of the squad seemed like a no-brainer and the decision seemed to be the right one in the early goings of the 2024 MLB regular season.
When the Phillies cruised to a 45-19 record after beating the Mets in London on June 8, putting them on pace for 114 wins, it looked like the strategy was working to perfection.
But baseball is a long season, and things went downhill from there. Including the NLDS, the Phillies finished the year 51-51—pretty much .500 ball after a scorching start.
Point Being: We all didn’t want to acknowledge it, but the Phillies lost their juice months ago, making what happened not as tragic as you’d think.
You’re right—this team clearly ignored glaring issues. The bullpen collapsed when it mattered most, and when the bats weren’t going yard, they might as well have been ghosts.
It’s like they forgot that playoff baseball is about being adaptable and scrappy, not just waiting for a three-run bomb to save the day.
They coasted after the All-Star break, and it showed. By the time the NLDS rolled around, they had the energy of a team that was just hoping to get lucky, not one ready to fight.
There was an overwhelming lack of urgency to change after last year.
Losing in the World Series was rough in 2022 and dropping two games at home in the NLCS to the Arizona Fucking Diamondbacks was even worse, but if you’re not tweaking and improving, you’re standing still and standing still in this league is a recipe for disaster.
As for that girl who evacuated the hurricane just to be let down by this mess—it’s poetic in the worst way.

A damn hurricane might have been less emotionally destructive than watching this Phillies squad roll over and die. Can you even imagine the regret? Probably wished she stuck it out in the storm like our hero, Lieutenant Dan down in the Tampa Bay.
And those overalls? Man, nothing stings worse than being decked out in “we’re gonna win” gear only to get gut-punched by reality. Hopefully the overalls, these dudes, and the Chief Vibes Officer that is killing JT Realmuto’s career all find their way out of the city before pitchers and catchers report to what’s left of Clearwater, Florida in February.

Philly sports are notorious for humbling their fans in the most brutal fashion, and dressing up like we’re already popping champagne is a dangerous gamble. When we win, it’s the best feeling in the world. But when we lose? You look like the personification of false hope. This team had every chance, and they blew it.
