Jared McCain taken to hospital after falling on his head in preseason game

The Sixers had yet another nerve-wrecking moment on Wednesday night when rookie guard Jared McCain took a hard fall late in their preseason matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.

With about four minutes left on the clock, McCain missed a shot and went up aggressively to snag the rebound between two defenders. Unfortunately, things got awkward in mid-air, and McCain lost his balance, falling backward and hitting his head on the court. It was another scary sight for Sixers fans, who are still holding their breaths from the Paul George injury the other night.

After the game, Nick Nurse confirmed that the rookie guard was taken to the hospital for further evaluation after experiencing breathing issues following his hard fall.

“It was rough,” said the Sixers’ head coach. “Got the report, he’s going to the hospital to get checked out. Obviously he was having some trouble breathing there but maybe got the wind knocked out of him but not sure what was going on there. Never quite seen one like that before. So, let’s hope he’s okay and see what the report is from the hospital.”

Kelly Oubre also had the opportunity to chime in on this situation, and for what it’s worth, it seemed encouraging.

“He’s fine. It was very scary. He caught himself, luckily. He didn’t fall flat on his back. He’s gonna feel it tomorrow. That’s kinda what we were telling him. He’s just gotta kinda take it easy and make sure he’s 100 percent for opening night.”

McCain, the 20-year-old Duke product, was Philly’s 16th overall pick in this year’s draft. While he’s made a name for himself on TikTok, he has been proving he’s more than just a social media star. In Sixers preseason action so far he has averaged 12.8 points per game and has showcased an all-around game.
