Wells Fargo Center Automated Parking

WATCH: Wells Fargo Center unveils a new automated parking experience- What could possibly go wrong?

The Wells Fargo Center has unveiled a new automated parking experience that will almost certainly make things even more miserable down at the South Philly Sports Complex.

Wells Fargo Center unveils a new automated parking experience

I mean…what could possibly go wrong?

It’s already a complete nightmare trying to deal with parking attendants at the Wells Fargo Center and there’s not a single person who hasn’t been stuck in a line behind a clueless driver that is asking an attendant a million questions while questioning why they can’t park in lot “XYZ”, trying to make a sharp left when they get through the gates, cutting off every other lane in the process.

Now, they are putting two cars in a “transaction ring” and banking (pun intended) on both vehicles to efficiently complete their parking purchase and enter through the gates together.

Madness.

Just wait until one of these lanes has an issue and you’re stuck inside the ring with no way out. Cars are honking behind you. The attendant is trying to fix the machine to keep the flow of traffic moving.

There’s no way out. During the anxiety-ridden minutes leading up to a Sixers or Flyers game, that’s the last place you want to be stuck in, right?

Again, just the idea of two cars completing their transactions before the gates allow you to proceed into the lots screams chaos. A single human-to-human interaction when parking is already ridiculous, and now we’re moving towards human-to-robot and doubling the transactions in order to get through.

All of this is done in effort to cut costs for Comcast. It’s not here to improve the fan experience or solve the already-broken process of parking and navigating traffic at the South Philly Sports Complex.

But hey as someone who runs a website, I will happily take the content.

The influx of videos from fans fighting or arguing inside the “transaction ring” is going to be epic. On top of that, if the 76ers are smart, they’ll use the content in partnership with SEPTA on why 76 Place at Market East and public transportation is much better instead of engaging in a nightmare parking situation in South Philly.
