Spurs Final Boss vs Knicks

The “Spurs Final Boss” who fought the entire city of New York isn’t even a Spurs fan, he’s just a guy from Philly

A man in a Dennis Rodman Spurs jersey went viral Saturday night after single-handedly brawling with a crowd of Knicks fans inside Penn Station’s Moynihan Train Hall following New York’s NBA championship win. After the story went viral, the internet dubbed him the “Spurs Final Boss.”

The kicker? He’s not even a Spurs fan. He’s from Philadelphia.

I mean, who else? Seriously, who else on this planet puts on another team’s jersey, travels to a rival city on championship night, and decides to fight every single person in a train station?

The aerial angle of the Spurs Final Boss is genuinely one of the most incredible pieces of fan footage I’ve ever seen:

He’s shoving people, chasing people, swinging at anything in a Knicks jersey. Multiple guys tried to hit him from behind. Nobody put him down. Cops eventually intervened with barricades to hold back the crowd and escort him out, at which point he was screaming, “Meet me outside.” Then, once he actually was outside, he went a few more rounds.

His postgame press conference was better than Wembanyama’s

After the NYPD got him out of the building, Wallace hopped on Instagram Stories to deliver what can only be described as the best postgame interview of the entire NBA Finals.

For reference, Victor Wembanyama’s actual postgame interview after losing 4-1 on his own home floor included the phrase “we absolutely dominated for most of this series,” followed by him leaving the court without shaking anyone’s hand and telling reporters, “see you all, never.” That was the franchise’s official response. Wallace West’s response was to tell an entire city’s fanbase they’re pussy from the back of an unmarked police car. I know which one I’m putting in the Hall of Fame.

And then the real twist came out

Here’s where this goes from a great internet moment to an all-timer. It turns out Wallace West doesn’t even root for the Spurs. He’s from Philly. He just wanted all the smoke.

“We used to this.” Four words that explain everything. This man didn’t travel to New York to process a basketball loss. He had no rooting interest in this series whatsoever. He put on a Rodman jersey because it was the most antagonistic thing he could wear into a building full of celebrating Knicks fans, and he went to work. That’s heritage right there. Philly loves a good 1-versus-500 brawl. It must be in our DNA.

I need to put this in context for you. Throughout this entire NBA Finals, Knicks fans were running around New York, assaulting people, turning Midtown into what everyone thinks Philadelphia is like.

After Game 3, a Spurs fan was mobbed on West 47th Street, beaten, and stripped of his jersey. A 17-year-old was beaten into a coma after Game 4. On championship night alone, 63 people were arrested, five school buses were set on fire in Times Square, and a teenager was shot near 42nd and Broadway.

And then an actual Philadelphian showed up and put every single one of them to shame. Alone. In a jersey he doesn’t even have a rooting interest in. I tip my cap to Wallace West. The Fighting City of Philadelphia has a new folk hero.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
