The “Ben Simmons Revenge Tour” is off to a slow start.
The Brooklyn Nets finally got into the win column on Sunday, taking down the Milwaukee Bucks 115-102 for their first victory of the season. Cam Thomas was the star of the show, dropping 32 points, while Dennis Schroeder added 29 to help the Nets improve to 1-2.
The Ben Simmons Revenge Tour (2024 Edition)
Simmons logged 24 minutes and put up just two points on three shot attempts. He did manage six rebounds and six assists, but his four fouls and four turnovers kind of canceled that out.
This has been a theme for Simmons so far—solid minutes but little production. He’s played the fifth-most minutes on the team this season, but he leads the Nets in turnovers and fouls. He still hasn’t hit double figures in points, rebounds, or assists in any game.
He’s averaging just 0.3 more points per game than fouls and if you caught the game or watched the highlights, you probably noticed those moments where he passed up wide-open layups—classic Simmons, right?
One play really stood out, where Simmons caught a lob near the rim but, instead of going up for an easy bucket, he opted to pass it out. And don’t forget the season opener when he was on a fast break and turned back to pass it out, resulting in yet another turnover.
This is why through three games, Simmons has more fouls (14) than shot attempts (12). The crazy part? Just about a month ago, Simmons told the media he’s “actually pretty good” when he’s healthy.
In case you forgot, Ben Simmons wants you to know that he is ‘not that bad’ at basketball
But here we are, and the guy still won’t shoot. Simmons is still a strong rebounder, can run a fast break in motion, and can whip a pass to a shooter like few others but his offensive aggression? It’s nonexistent. He hasn’t taken a single shot outside the paint this season.
Ben Simmons is now 28 years old and in his seventh NBA season, so you have to wonder if anything will ever change. Honestly, I wouldn’t count on it.
