Sports Equinox: New York City becomes first metro area EVER to lose games across MLB, NFL, NBA, and MLS on the same day
In a rare “sports equinox,” where MLB, NFL, NBA, and MLS all play on the same day, New York did the unthinkable on Monday by losing every single game on the sports schedule, marking a new low in the always-struggling sports market.
Monday might just go down as one of the most humiliating days in New York sports history.
The night started with the New York Yankees delivering a lifeless performance in Game 3 of the World Series, losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the Bronx 4-2 to fall behind 3-0. Now they’re just one more choke away from handing L.A. the trophy.
So much for the Bronx Bombers, am I right?
Not to be outdone, the New York Giants did what they do best—got outplayed on national TV. The Pittsburgh Steelers handed Daniel Jones and company a beautiful 26-18 loss on Monday Night Football to push their record to 2-6 on the season. The G-Men are making losing look like an art form at this point as Daniel Jones’ massive contract looms heavy over the franchise.
The New York Knicks couldn’t resist joining in on the fun, dropping a winnable game to the Cavaliers at Madison Square Garden. Turns out, the only thing consistent about the Knicks is their ability to let fans down.
Meanwhile, NYCFC closed out this sad parade by losing to FC Cincinnati.
According to OptaSTATS, New York just became the first city ever to lose games across MLB, NFL, NBA, and MLS on the same day. The Big Apple just got served a big fat piece of sports history nobody wanted and honestly, I couldn’t be happier.

New York sports fans are probably used to disappointment by now, but Monday was a masterclass in failure. Four games, four losses, one epic collapse.
Well done, NYC—you’ve found a way to make losing history.
