Nick Sirianni explains why Eagles stayed silent at NFL Trade Deadline

The NFL trade deadline came and went on Tuesday afternoon without any moves from Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles.

While General Manager Howie Roseman has a track record of making in-season trades — bringing in names like Jay Ajayi in 2017, Golden Tate in 2018, Robert Quinn in 2022, and most recently Kevin Byard in 2023 — this year, he opted for a different approach. The Eagles stood firm with their current roster, a decision that head coach Nick Sirianni fully supports.

Why Nick Sirianni Believes the Eagles Didn’t Need a Trade

When asked about the lack of activity at the trade deadline, Nick Sirianni expressed confidence in the team’s depth and talent, explaining that no move was necessary to keep the Eagles competitive. “I really, really feel strongly about our team and where we are,” Nick Sirianni shared on Wednesday. He emphasized that Roseman has done an excellent job building a well-rounded roster, minimizing the need for further trades.

Nick Sirianni added, “I feel strong about the starters at the positions and the depth [at those] positions, so that speaks for the work that Howie and his staff have done from the draft till now.”

Analyzing the Eagles’ Roster and 2025 Draft Picks

One of the factors that played into the decision was the Eagles’ limited draft capital for 2025. After trading a 3rd-round pick to Washington for Jahan Dotson, the team is left with selections in the 1st and 2nd rounds, a later 3rd-round pick, one 4th-round pick, and three 5th-round picks. Given the limited picks and the current roster depth, any trade would have required significant consideration.

Besides, the Eagles’ recent performance on both sides of the ball supports the decision to stay put. With a 6-2 record and a four-game winning streak, they rank 6th in the NFL in offense and 3rd in defense. Heading into a crucial matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, they appear well-prepared without any new additions.

The Eagles have solidified their positions across the board. Offensively, they’re well-equipped with at quarterback, tight end, running back, and offensive line. On defense, they’ve bolstered their secondary, maintained a strong linebacker unit, and seen outstanding performances from their defensive line. In Sirianni’s view, any additional trades would have been more of a luxury than a necessity.

While some viable players were available on the market, matching their cost with an actual need didn’t align for the Eagles this year. Sirianni’s confidence in the roster is clear: “I feel really good about the people that we have here.”

As they focus on upcoming games and eye the playoffs, the Eagles have chosen to rely on the talent already in place. By holding off on trades, Philadelphia is not only conserving future assets but also reinforcing its belief in the current roster. With Sirianni and Roseman at the helm, the Eagles are poised to continue their strong season without needing any new mid-season reinforcements.
