Eagles’ defensive numbers since Week 5 BYE are incredible
Fellas, the Philadelphia Eagles have a good defense. Hard to believe, I know, but Vic Fangio has been cooking recently and the young defenders have proven to be up to the task.
Fangio and Co. struggled a bit out the gates, blowing a 4th quarter lead to Atlanta in Week 2 and getting dog walked by Tampa Bay in Week 4. But since the Week 5 bye, the Eagles defense has been lights out.
Here’s how the Eagles stack up since Week 5:
- #1 in total defense
- #1 in least points allowed
- #1 in passing defense
- #2 in rushing defense
- #2 in Sacks
- Most turnovers forced over the last three games

In every meaningful metric, the Eagles have the best defense in the NFL right now.
Now, we shouldn’t discount the offense they’ve faced during that time frame. From Week 6 on they’ve faced Cleveland, New York, Cincinnati, Jacksonville, and Dallas. Not exactly a list of world beaters here (with the exception of Cincy). Regardless, we’ve seen the Eagles defense play down to their opponents countless times throughout the Nick Sirianni era. It’s refreshing to see a defense actually dominate teams they should dominate and hold their own against elite quarterbacks like Joe Burrow.
Thursday night will be a great test for the entire team, but especially for the defense. Vic Fangio should be able to scheme up looks that Jayden Daniels has never seen before. A great defensive coordinator never lets a rookie quarterback dominate his defense. It just can’t happen.
We’ll have to see how the rest of the season plays out, but right now, the Eagles defense is, without question, one of the best units in the league.
