WATCH: Former Eagles EDGE Derek Barnett made the play of the game during Monday Night Football
Derek Barnett has been surprisingly good since leaving the Philadelphia Eagles. He’s been in Houston for a year and some change now and he seems to always be making plays.
Monday night’s game between the Texans and Cowboys gave us the classic Derek Barnett experience. In the first half, he commited a brain dead penalty while trying to block a field goal, blatantly slapping a guy’s helmet for no reason.

This penalty ended up giving the Cowboys a first down, but luckily, Houston’s defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs later in the drive.
In the second half, Barnett made up for his stupidity with a strip sack of Cooper Rush and a recovery for a touchdown.
That’s a hell of a play from Barnett. Strips Rush on the initial pass rush, then keeps fighting to the football and ends up scooping it up for a touchdown. The dude can actually play.
He still commits some of the dumbest penalties you’ll ever see, but at least his play is starting to make up for it.
