Barnett, 27, is reportedly hoping for more playing time elsewhere. The Eagles permitted Barnett to seek a trade in August, but a deal never materialized.
The seven-year veteran failed to meet draft expectations but remained integral to Philly’s DL rotation. He’s developed a bit of a reputation as an undisciplined player, responsible for 26 penalties in his career. Of those calls, 11 were either unnecessary roughness or roughing the passer.
Despite his untimely penalties, Barnett was one of the unsung heroes in Philadelphia’s lone Super Bowl victory, recovering Brandon Graham’s strip-sack on Tom Brady late in the 4th quarter. Barnett recorded 21.5 sacks, 37 TFL, and 76 QB hits during his Eagles’ tenure.
