Darius Slay comes up huge on final drive in Eagles vs. Panthers to seal 22-16 victory in 9th straight win

I’m not going to sugarcoat it—Darius Slay had me tearing my hair out for most of Sunday afternoon. The Eagles’ defense was putting together a solid performance, only for Slay to pop up with a penalty or give up a back-breaking third or fourth-down conversion.

It was like clockwork, and it kept the Carolina Panthers alive longer than anyone would’ve liked.

But football is a funny game, and by the final drive, Darius Slay flipped the narrative. With the Panthers driving to potentially steal one at the Linc, Slay stepped up and played lockdown defense when it mattered most, capping it off with the game-winning stop. All is forgiven (for now).

This one felt like a trap game all week. The Panthers, led by rookie QB Bryce Young, have been playing some sneaky-good football. Just last week, they pushed the Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs to the brink, so there was no reason to take this matchup lightly. And sure enough, they gave the Eagles all they could handle.

Bryce Young looked poised, making key throws to keep Carolina in it, and the Panthers’ defense showed up with just enough grit to make this one a nail-biter. Still, the Eagles found ways to make the necessary plays.

Whether it was Jalen Hurts orchestrating a crucial late-game drive or the defense clamping down when it absolutely had to, they proved why they’re still one of the league’s best.

With the win, the Eagles move to 11-2 and keep the pressure on the Detroit Lions for the NFC’s top seed. Yes, you read that right—the Detroit Lions. This season has been anything but predictable, but the Eagles’ consistency stands out.

The Panthers, meanwhile, are no pushovers, and that’s why this game matters. It’s easy to take a young team lightly, especially after a gauntlet of tough games, but the Eagles didn’t fall into that trap. They bent but didn’t break, and they leave Week 14 with another W.

Darius Slay’s afternoon was a rollercoaster, but when the ride stopped, he was the hero. The Eagles keep finding ways to win, even when things get dicey, and that’s what separates contenders from pretenders.

Nine straight wins don’t happen by accident. With this team’s mix of resilience, depth, and top-tier talent, they’re proving every week why they’re still the class of the NFC. Up next? The push for that #1 seed.
