A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith achieved a feat no other Eagles duo has done since 2009

The Philadelphia Eagles silenced the doubters on Sunday vs. Pittsburgh behind a surgical performance from QB Jalen Hurts.

After a week filled with drama centered around Hurts’ uninspiring passing numbers, the Eagles’ signal-caller threw for 290 yards, two touchdowns, and 125.3 passer rating. He found his star receivers early and often, leading to a decisive 27-13 victory.

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith combined for 19 catches, 219 receiving yards, and two touchdowns, proving that Philadelphia can beat opponents through the air if needed.

During their victory, Brown and Smith became the first pair of Eagles’ pass-catchers to each record 100+ yards, 5+ receptions, and a receiving TD since Brent Celek and DeSean Jackson in 2009.

Hurts’ 290 yards were more than his previous two games combined (226) and seven of his 25 completions went for 20+ yards.

Following the game, A.J. Brown was asked if he felt like his comments from last week helped the passing offense this week:

“Absolutely. I said it for a reason. I didn’t have ill intentions behind it. It wasn’t for me to get the ball. It was just for us to all get on the same page and and put our best foot forward.

We know what we’re capable of, and last week wasn’t our standard. It’s just crazy, though, because everybody in locker room said the same thing and I kind of got crucified for it. But it was cool.”

Credit to Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff for having the team prepared this week despite controversy. It takes incredible focus to drown out the noise and perform at the level the Eagles did yesterday.

With Detroit’s loss to Buffalo, the NFC’s top seed remains up for grabs with three games remaining in the regular season.

I can’t imagine anyone would be excited to see this version of the Philadelphia Eagles in the postseason.
