Reminder: Joel Embiid owns Victor Wembanyama and will do so again tonight in South Philly
Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers are back at the Wells Fargo Center tonight, hosting Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs.
Embiid is expected to play tonight which is great news for the Sixers, considering he owns Wemby any time the two international superstars are on the same court. Last January, Embiid scored 18 points to go along with 18 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block when Wemby and the Spurs came to town.
Embiid scored 24 points in the first quarter and was unstoppable from, well, everywhere on the basketball court. By halftime, he scored a career-high 34 points, passing the 30+ point mark for the 21st consecutive game.
At the end of the third quarter, Embiid amassed 59 points, 15 rebounds, and 4 assists on 21-of-35 shooting from the floor and 16-of-17 shooting from the foul line. On the night, he shot 24-of-41 from the floor and 21-of-23 from the charity stripe, as the Sixers won 133-123, extending their winning streak at the time to six games.
Side Note: Man, basketball used to be fun in Philly. Last January, everyone knew damn well that Joel Embiid was the greatest basketball player on Earth and the Sixers were winning games. Hopefully we’ll see the start of that again tonight, ya know?
Last two times Embiid saw Wemby, he dropped 70 and won a Gold Medal so yeah, I like the Sixers’ chances tonight.
Joel Embiid: 70 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists, a steal, and a block. 24-of-41 from the floor and 21-of-23 from the free throw line.Â
Embiid is coming off a 34-point performance against Charlotte on Friday, a game in which he only needed 31 minutes and 24 field goal attempts to dominate. If the game stays competitive, don’t be surprised if Embiid flirts with another massive scoring night.
Wembanyama continues to impress in his rookie season, and he put up 33 points in his first trip to Philadelphia earlier this year.

I’ll take Joel Embiid and Wemby on the OVER for Point Totals
- Joel Embiid: Over/Under 30.5
- Victor Wembanyama: Over/Under 22.5
The Sixers are currently 9-17 on the season. They need to string together a few wins.
Personally, I would have kept Embiid on the bench and had him play against the Cleveland Cavaliers over the weekend but I guess having him against Wemby at home is much more…spicy?
Whatever, I guess.
This team is 6-4 over their last 10 with the Spurs tonight, the Celtics on the road Christmas Day, and the Jazz, Trail Blazers, Kings, Warriors, and Nets away from South Philly before returning home against the Suns on January 6, 2025.Â
Need wins now. Tonight is the perfect opportunity to jumpstart some momentum heading into the 2025 calendar year.
