Saquon Barkley snubbed in Pro Bowl fan voting despite having one of the best seasons EVER by a running back in the NFL

Saquon Barkley is on the brink of history, chasing Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record and putting together what might be the greatest season ever by an NFL running back. But according to Pro Bowl fan voting, that wasn’t enough to land him the top spot among running backs.

In a surprising twist, Detroit Lions rookie Jahmyr Gibbs earned more votes than Barkley, finishing first in the fan vote at the position.

Pro Bowl Fan Voting: The Full Results

The NFL released the top-10 fan voting results for the 2024 Pro Bowl on Tuesday, and while the fan vote only accounts for a third of the total weighting, it’s hard to ignore the results:

Saquon Barkley vs. Jahmyr Gibbs: By the Numbers

While Gibbs is having an excellent rookie season, there’s no denying that Barkley’s 2024 campaign is in a league of its own. How on earth can anyone actually vote for Gibbs over Saquon is honestly ridiculous.

  • Saquon Barkley: Leads the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns. He’s within 100 yards of breaking Eric Dickerson’s 1984 record of 2,105 yards with one game left to play.
  • Jahmyr Gibbs: Sixth in rushing yards (1,273) and rushing TDs (13), while splitting carries with David Montgomery in Detroit’s backfield.

Gibbs’ numbers are solid, but they pale in comparison to Barkley’s jaw-dropping stats.

A closer look at the voting trends suggests that Lions fans went all-in on stuffing the ballot boxes. In addition to Gibbs leading running backs, six other Detroit players topped their respective positions, with another 12 finishing in the top five.

To be honest, I’m fine with it. The media and general NFL fans’ lovefest with the Detroit Lions this season has been absolutely nauseating.

Dan Campbell’s tough guy act is getting old— the Detroit Lions and their fans should know they are dead men walking

Every week, it’s another gushing feature about Dan Campbell’s “grit” or Jared Goff’s “resurgence,” as if the Lions haven’t been a historically irrelevant franchise for decades.

And that’s why I can’t wait for the Philadelphia Eagles to expose them in the playoffs—assuming Detroit even makes it to the NFC Championship Game. Barkley and the Eagles will be ready to remind everyone that hype and headlines don’t win championships, execution does.
