Saquon Barkley Sleep Ad

Saquon Barkley trolls John Mara and the Giants in new Sleep Ad, highlights New York’s malpractice heading into the 2024 NFL season

Remember when Giants president and co-owner John Mara said, “I’ll have a tough time sleeping if Saquon Barkley goes to Philadelphia”?

John Mara: “I’ll have a tough time sleeping if Barkley goes to Philadelphia, I’ll tell you that.”

Well, that nightmare became reality, and apparently, Mara isn’t the only one losing sleep. Saquon Barkley, who’s obviously now a member of the Giants’ NFC East rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles, is having one of the most historic seasons ever by an NFL running back.

Saquon also just dropped a perfectly petty sleep-aid commercial with Unisom.

The ad subtly mocks Mara’s infamous comment, suggesting a certain someone (cough, the Giants, cough) might need a little help getting some rest these days.

Saquon Barkley’s Sleep Ad with Unisom:

If watching Barkley torch the league wasn’t bad enough for New York, this commercial takes trolling to a whole new level.

Sure, you could argue the ad is a bit mean-spirited, if you’re a soft little baby, but being mad at Barkley doesn’t even make sense when you recall how we even got to this point.

The Giants reportedly never made a formal contract offer to their former franchise running back. General manager Joe Schoen essentially told Barkley to “test the market,” while the team handed Daniel Jones—a quarterback who spent most of the season looking allergic to the end zone—a bloated four-year, $160 million deal.

Fast-forward a year, and Barkley is not only having one of the most historic seasons ever by an NFL running back, but he’s also doing it inside the NFC East while wearing Eagles green.

He leads the NFL with over 2,000 rushing yards and will end the year in striking distance of Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record- one he would have almost certainly broke if Sunday’s game mattered and he was actually playing.

How Saquon Barkley’s season was better than Eric Dickerson’s in 1984, despite falling just shy of the rushing record

And New York? Oh, they’re 3-13.

Let’s break down the train wreck that is the 2024 New York Giants:

  • Barkley is having a career season for a division rival.
  • The Giants have nothing to show for 2024.
  • “Franchise quarterback” Daniel Jones was cut mid-season after his abysmal play became too much to bear.
  • Fans are fed up, players are frustrated, and the entire franchise is a rudderless mess.

The Giants’ decision to let Barkley walk—and watch him dominate within their division—might go down as one of the dumbest moves in franchise history. It’s a level of incompetence that would make even the most loyal New York fan shake their head.

Mara’s infamous line about sleepless nights has become the punchline of the year. The reality is, the Giants don’t just need Unisom—they need a complete organizational overhaul.

If Barkley and the Eagles really wanted to rub it in, they could’ve forced the Giants to watch him break Eric Dickerson’s record against them in Week 18. But instead, the Eagles are resting their Pro Bowl back (and most of their starters) as they prepare for the playoffs, which is more than anyone in New York can dream of right now.

For Eagles fans, Barkley’s record-breaking season and this perfectly timed commercial are just icing on the cake. For Mara and the Giants? Well, they’re stuck with the bitter taste of watching a generational talent slip through their fingers and thrive in Philadelphia.

And to think, they could’ve avoided all of this with just a contract offer. Good riddance.
