Jordan Mailata honored with inaugural “Media Appreciation Award” by Eagles beat writers

Jordan Mailata may have missed out on a Pro Bowl nod this year, but his contributions off the field earned him a different kind of recognition—one that speaks to his character and professionalism.

The Eagles’ offensive tackle was presented with the inaugural “Media Appreciation Award” by the Philadelphia Eagles beat writers for his cooperation, openness, and congeniality in dealing with local reporters throughout the season.

Hell of an award, ya know?

The “Media Appreciation Award” is a newly established honor created by the Eagles’ beat writers, a recognition spearheaded by the Philadelphia chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA). The award is designed to acknowledge a player who exemplifies a positive and professional relationship with the media, going above and beyond in their interactions.

I can’t help myself. I have to say that letting an award from the Philly chapter of the PFWA isn’t exactly a thrilling accomplishment. Not all, but the majority of Eagles beat writers… let’s just say they don’t exactly exude journalistic prestige. Yes, I’m talking about Jeff McClane who has The Liberty Line blocked on all platforms.

There are plenty of other names but let’s just leave it at that. This is Jordan Mailata’s moment, and I’m not here to take away his flowers. If nothing else, it’s a testament to his likability that even this crew agreed he was the guy for the inaugural award.

The Presentation

Mailata was handed the award by Zach Berman, PFWA chapter president and longtime Eagles beat writer. In the photo circulating online, Mailata towers over Berman while accepting the plaque, which led me to one immediate thought: Zach, are you 4 feet tall, or is Mailata just that big?

I’m kidding. Relax, everyone. Go Birds, right?

Why Jordan Mailata Stood Out

Mailata earned this award because of his warm demeanor, thoughtful answers, and ability to inject humor into any interaction. Whether breaking down offensive schemes or joking about his Aussie roots, he’s a guy who makes both the locker room and press conferences better places. That effort doesn’t go unnoticed, especially in a market as intense as Philly.

The relationship between players and media isn’t always smooth—especially in Philadelphia, where the pressure is intense, and criticism can be relentless. But Mailata consistently set the bar for professionalism and approachability. While he’s a dominant force on the field, his off-field presence is equally impactful. It’s no wonder fans, teammates, and yes, even the media, adore him.

While awards like the Pro Bowl celebrate on-field achievements, the Media Appreciation Award shines a light on qualities that go beyond the stat sheet. And while it might not carry the prestige of a Lombardi Trophy—or even a fan-voted Pro Bowl selection—it’s a reminder that Jordan Mailata is one of the good ones. A true team player who embodies what it means to represent Philadelphia.

Go Birds.
