Flyers destroy the ‘Mighty’ Ducks 6-0 in Cutter Gauthier’s return to Philly
Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center wasn’t just another game on the schedule—it was the game circled in red for Flyers fans.
The Anaheim Ducks were in town, bringing with them former Flyers top prospect Cutter Gauthier for his first game in Philadelphia since forcing a controversial trade out of the organization just over a year ago.
The result was a very hostile crowd, relentless taunts, and an energized Flyers team that turned in their most complete performance of the season, routing the Ducks 6-0.
From the moment the puck dropped, the Wells Fargo Center was electric. Flyers fans, infamous for their passion and pettiness, brought the heat for Cutter Gauthier.
Boos rained down every time he touched the ice, chants of “F— YOU, CUTTER!” echoed through the rafters, and the scoreboard crew kept replaying moments of Gauthier being bullied on the ice.
Even during warmups, fans held up signs like “CUTTER IS SOFTER THAN BUTTER,” setting the tone for what would be a long night for Anaheim’s young forward.
Cutter Gauthier in absolute hell:
The Flyers fed off the energy immediately. Morgan Frost opened the scoring early, and Jamie Drysdale—acquired in the Gauthier trade—followed up with a poetic five-hole goal that sent the crowd into a frenzy. By the time Garnet Hathaway capped off the night’s scoring, the Flyers had all but sealed one of their most dominant wins in recent memory.
Jamie Drysdale Masterclass:
Cutter Gauthier’s Nightmare Return to Philly:
For Gauthier, the night was as miserable as Flyers fans hoped it would be. He was the target of constant boos and physical punishment, with players like Owen Tippett and Rasmus Ristolainen taking every opportunity to make life difficult for him.
Tippett’s crushing hit and Ristolainen flattening Gauthier into his own teammate drew roars from the crowd and set the tone for the game. It was clear Cutter wasn’t ready for this level of hostility. The Flyers’ relentless play ensured he left Philly empty-handed, both on the scoreboard and in his attempt to quiet the crowd.
Cutter Gauthier proved he was too soft for Philly anyways…
Sam Ersson Stands Tall
Amid the chaos and hostility, Flyers goaltender Sam Ersson quietly delivered a masterclass in net. In just his second consecutive start, Ersson stopped all 22 shots he faced, earning his first shutout of the season.
While the Flyers’ defense kept most of the Ducks’ chances to the perimeter, Ersson made key saves when needed, giving the team confidence to press offensively.
Jamie Drysdale Shines Against His Old Team
If there was ever a game for Jamie Drysdale to make a statement, this was it. Traded to the Flyers as part of the controversial Gauthier deal, Drysdale silenced any lingering doubts with a stellar performance. His first-period goal—his second of the season—came on a confident drive to the net, and his defensive work kept the Ducks’ anemic offense in check all night.
While it’s easy to dismiss this game as a grudge-fueled outlier, it showcased what this Flyers team is capable of when firing on all cylinders. The energy, the physicality, and the commitment to playing a full 60 minutes were all there.
Now, the challenge is carrying that momentum forward.
For one night, at least, the Flyers gave their fans something to cheer about. At the very least, Cutter Gauthier will probably want to forget this one ever happened.
