Report: Darius Slay is preparing for Sunday to be his final home game in Philadelphia

Darius Slay has been a cornerstone of the Eagles secondary since he arrived in 2020. According to NBC Philadelphia’s Ashlyn Sullivan, Big Play is preparing for Sunday to be his final home game at Lincoln Financial Field.

Per Sullivan, Darius Slay is leaning towards playing one more year after this season. The fact of the matter is, the Eagles may not want to bring him back at his asking price. Which is fair — the NFL is a business after all.

I know Slay gets a lot of shit from Eagles fans, especially when he says some out of pocket shit on his podcast, which I admittedly don’t care for either. Nevertheless, he revitalized the cornerback position in Philadelphia almost as soon as he got here.

Before Slay, the Eagles had about a 10-year run of mediocrity at cornerback. It started with Nnamdi, then it progressed to Byron Maxwell, until shit really hit the fan with Michael Jacquet starting at CB1. It was a brutal time, and even when Slay got here, the sentiment was still very negative.

“Here comes another corner who’s supposed to fix the Eagles secondary,” type of energy.

I’d say the majority of fans were not optimistic about the acquisition at all. But to his credit, Darius Slay really did help rip the monkey off the Eagles’ back. He was, and still is, the cornerstone of the Eagles defensive back room.

He deserves his flowers, and on Sunday, he has an opportunity to go to his second Super Bowl with the Eagles. Not many people can say that.

Darius Slay has had an impressive career in Philadelphia and I’m excited to see what his final hoorah at The Linc looks like.
