Tyrese Maxey Sixers Bulls

Tyrese Maxey’s 31 points power shorthanded Sixers past Bulls, 109-97

The Philadelphia 76ers needed a win in the worst way, and Tyrese Maxey delivered. The guard put up 31 points in a must-win game against the Chicago Bulls, leading the Sixers to a 109-97 victory on the back end of a back-to-back.

With Paul George sidelined by a pinky injury, Maxey took control early and never let go, proving once again why he’s the key to salvaging the Sixers’ rollercoaster season.

Paul George Pinky Injury – Yikes

Vintage Tyrese Maxey:

For much of the season, Tyrese Maxey’s shooting struggles have been puzzling. But over the last two games, he’s looked like the Maxey of old—fearless, electric, and impossible to guard.

Maxey set the tone in the first quarter with 13 quick points, hitting everything from pull-up threes to dazzling scoop layups. By the time the dust settled, he had more points than the rest of his teammates combined in the opening frame. Chicago’s defense had no answers, and Maxey finished the half with an even 20, establishing himself as Philly’s offensive engine.

In the second half, Maxey showcased his growing maturity. While his scoring volume dipped, his impact didn’t. He calmly navigated double teams and traps, finding open teammates and stepping up when it mattered most. Late in the fourth, with the Bulls threatening, Maxey hit a clutch midrange jumper and buried a three-pointer to ice the game.

If this is the Maxey the Sixers can count on, the season isn’t just alive—it might be about to take off.

Kelly Oubre Jr. Delivers Yet Again

Kelly Oubre Jr. has been one of the season’s biggest surprises, embracing whatever role the Sixers throw at him. Against Chicago, Oubre notched 22 points and 10 rebounds, filling gaps on both ends of the floor.

What stood out most was his commitment to rebounding. In a game where Philly desperately needed help on the glass, Oubre repeatedly crashed the boards, showing the kind of effort that’s made him an invaluable piece this season.

Oubre’s decision-making has historically been a mixed bag, and he still had some head-scratching moments—like driving into a lone defender during a four-on-one fast break. But overall, he’s been a stabilizing presence for a team that’s been anything but stable.

Adem Bona Minutes Paying Off…

Adem Bona continues to grow into his role, particularly on the offensive end. The rookie big man showcased his synergy with Maxey in the pick-and-roll, setting solid screens and finishing above the rim with authority.

Bona isn’t just a lob threat, though. He made a few smart plays in short-roll situations, including a slick pass to the corner for a three-pointer. His activity and awareness are improving with each game, and he’s quickly becoming a key part of the rotation.

Paul George Injury Not Ideal

The win was overshadowed by yet another injury blow for the Sixers. Paul George, coming off a stellar performance against Cleveland, left the game in the second quarter with a pinky injury on his non-shooting hand. While the initial outlook doesn’t seem dire, his immediate exit and the team’s cautious approach raise questions about how long he’ll be sidelined.

Paul George and Tyrese Maxey shine, Sixers outlast East-leading Cleveland Cavs 132-129

For a team already missing Joel Embiid, losing George for any length of time would be a massive blow.

Game Notes:

Maxey’s resurgence has been a sight for sore eyes. If he can sustain this level of play, the Sixers have a fighting chance, even in a season plagued by adversity.

Nick Nurse’s lineup experiments, including a stretch with Maxey, Kyle Lowry, and Reggie Jackson on the floor together, left much to be desired. It’s understandable to dig deep on a back-to-back, but some combinations just don’t work.

Failing to feed Maxey during his first-quarter heater was an unforgivable offense. When your star is cooking, you don’t let two possessions go by without giving him the ball.

Final Thoughts

In a season where every win feels like a battle, the Sixers showed grit and resilience to pull out a victory in Chicago. Maxey’s brilliance, Oubre’s hustle, and Bona’s growth were bright spots on a night that could’ve easily gone the other way.

With Paul George’s status uncertain and Joel Embiid still out, the Sixers will need more performances like this to stay afloat. For now, though, they can breathe a little easier knowing Tyrese Maxey looks ready to lead the way.
