“You Can’t Ban Greatness”: Air Jordan drops new ad campaign featuring Jalen Hurts

JALEN HURTS – Michael Jordan’s legacy transcends basketball—it’s woven into sports, music, fashion, and pop culture like no other athlete’s influence. To celebrate 40 years of Air Jordan dominance, Jordan Brand has launched one of the most audacious marketing campaigns in sneaker history: You Can’t Ban Greatness.

The concept? Rewriting history—what if Nike never paid the fine for MJ’s red-and-black sneakers in 1985? What if the Air Jordan never took off? Luckily, we don’t live in that timeline. Instead, Jordan Brand is flexing hard, showing just how unstoppable the Jumpman really is.

“You Can’t Ban Greatness”: Air Jordan drops new ad campaign featuring Jalen Hurts

Jalen Hurts Kicks It Off—And Gets Fined

The campaign launched in December, and who better to be the first enforcer than Jalen Hurts?

The Philadelphia Eagles QB rocked custom Air Jordan 11 cleats that blatantly violated the NFL’s uniform policy. Naturally, the league hit him with a fine. Jordan Brand responded and said they are paying the fine and you “can’t ban greatness.”

Disgusting Behavior: The NFL fined Jalen Hurts for wearing mismatched Air Jordan cleats against the Steelers

Smart. Just like Nike did for MJ in ’85, Jordan Brand covered the cost, setting the tone for a next-level marketing push.

Sneaker Censorship: The Next Phase

Jordan Brand turned up the heat with a Christmas Day commercial and a wave of strategic “bans”:

🚫 Blocking out Air Jordans on the Jordan statue at the United Center
🚫 Placing black bars over sneaker images on the Nike website
🚫 Getting Air Jordans “banned” in NBA 2K25

The message was clear: Even if you try to erase them, Air Jordans will always be part of the culture.

The Grand Finale: A Star-Studded Anthem Video

Earlier today, Jordan Brand dropped the crown jewel of the campaign—a 90-second anthem showcasing the past, present, and future of the brand’s unparalleled impact.

The video is loaded with elite athletes, musicians, and cultural icons, including:

🏀 Jordan Brand NBA & NFL stars
🎤 Travis Scott & DJ Khaled
📣 Howard University’s cheer squad

The anthem first aired Sunday night during the Grammys and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more of it given the fact that Jalen Hurts, a Jordan Brand athlete, is playing in Super Bowl LIX next week.

The Message: Greatness is Unbannable

Whether it’s dominating the courts, breaking dress codes, influencing music, or setting sneaker trends worldwide, Jordan Brand’s reach is unstoppable.

40 years later, the Jumpman isn’t just a sneaker logo—it’s a symbol of sports and culture at its highest level. And no matter how many fines, bans, or black bars get in the way—you can’t ban greatness.
