Jeffrey Lurie Eagles Media Night New Orleans

Jeffrey Lurie Opens Up in New Orleans: Nick Sirianni’s contract, a potential dome stadium in Philly, the Boston Celtics and Eagles’ upcoming international schedule

Jeffrey Lurie doesn’t speak to the media often, but when he does, you know there’s going to be something worth talking about. The Eagles’ owner took center stage at Super Bowl Opening Night in New Orleans, fielding questions about Nick Sirianni’s contract, international games, and whether Philly might get a dome stadium in the future.

Let’s break down the biggest takeaways.

No Contract Extension for Nick Sirianni… Yet

Statistically speaking, Nick Sirianni is one of the most successful coaches in NFL history.

  • Two Super Bowl appearances in three years
  • Fifth-best winning percentage of all time
  • More wins than any coach not named Lombardi, Madden, Chamberlain, or Allen at this point in their career

And yet, when asked about a potential contract extension, Lurie didn’t commit, saying the Eagles don’t publicly discuss contracts.

Fair enough, but let’s be real—Sirianni’s getting paid. The most interesting part of the question is the fact that Lurie acknowledged that Sirianni’s emotions and “high-energy” approach to coaching is both a strength in and a weakness.

Translation: We love the fire, but maybe tone down the sideline theatrics.

As we all witnessed this season, none of that matters if you’re winning football games. Add a Super Bowl to the trophy case and Sirianni could literally fist fight an Eagles fan on the sidelines without anyone even blinking twice.

Either way, a Nick Sirianni extension feels inevitable—it’s just a matter of when.

Praise Jesus: Jeffrey Lurie Isn’t Buying the Celtics

Recently, Bill Simmons claimed Jeffrey Lurie was one of the top contenders to buy the Boston Celtics, a report that had Sixers fans sweating.

Last night Jeffrey Lurie shut that rumor down quickly:

“No, I’m not really interested in acquiring another sports team. My whole focus is on my love of the Eagles and to win another Super Bowl for Philadelphia. And I’m obsessed.”

It’s nice to hear, especially in an era where owners seem to care more about expanding their business portfolios than winning (looking at you, Josh Harris). If anything, I’m still going to be campaigning for Lurie to purchase the Philadelphia 76ers but we can wait until after the Super Bowl to focus on any of that.

The good news is that Lurie has no plans in jumping into the NBA world, and that’s exactly how Eagles fans want it.

Jeffrey Lurie should forget about the Boston Celtics and do Philly a favor by purchasing the 76ers instead

The Eagles Aren’t Losing a Home Game in 2026

Reports recently surfaced that the Eagles might play a home game in Australia in 2026 against the Rams. Naturally, that sparked outrage, since Philly already lost a home game this season when they played in Germany.

Lurie, however, set the record straight:

If the Eagles go to Australia, they’ll be the visiting team.

Crisis averted.

This makes a lot more sense—why would the league take two home games away from one of the best markets in football? The Eagles will still get their global spotlight without forcing Philly fans to sacrifice another home Sunday at The Linc.

Could a Dome Be in the Eagles’ Future?

The idea of Philadelphia getting a domed stadium has been floating around for years, and Lurie was asked whether it’s something he’s considering.

Jeffrey Lurie’s Response…

“I love outdoor football. I love the cold games, I like the hot games, I like the snow games. But does Philadelphia deserve to host the Super Bowl, the NCAA Final Four, lots of great events? Yes. So, we’ve gotta balance all those things.”

That’s a very diplomatic way of saying, ‘We’re thinking about it.’ On one hand, Philly in late January is part of the identity—snow, wind, and freezing temperatures are home-field advantages.

On the other, a dome would put the city in contention for massive events like the Super Bowl and Final Four, which Lurie clearly believes Philly deserves. So, will it happen? Not anytime soon. But it’s also not off the table.

Lurie didn’t drop any earth-shattering announcements, but his comments gave us a good sense of where things stand:

Sirianni’s contract extension is coming—but not yet.
Lurie isn’t buying the Celtics, much to the relief of Sixers fans.
The Eagles aren’t losing a home game to Australia.
A dome stadium? Maybe someday, but not soon.

At the end of the day, Lurie’s focus remains where it should be—bringing another Lombardi Trophy to Philadelphia. Everything else? That’s a conversation for another time.
