Jeffrey Lurie Celtics Sixers Purchase

Jeffrey Lurie should forget about the Boston Celtics and do Philly a favor by purchasing the 76ers instead

Jeffrey Lurie is reportedly in the mix to buy the Boston Celtics, but let’s be real here—he should do Philadelphia a massive favor and set his sights on purchasing the 76ers instead.

According to The Ringer’s Bill Simmons, Lurie has made it to the final stages of bidding for the Celtics, one of the most iconic franchises in sports. But why would Philly’s beloved Eagles owner waste his time on a Boston team when the Sixers are right here in his backyard, stuck under the uninspiring ownership of Joshua Harris?

For years, Sixers fans have been begging—no, pleading—for an ownership change.

Harris’ tenure has been marred by bad decisions, a lack of connection with the fanbase, and an overall vibe that feels more like a corporate investment strategy than a passion for winning. Let’s not forget he owns the Commanders now, which alone makes him public enemy No. 1 in Philadelphia.

Did Joshua Harris issue a gag order on the Philadelphia 76ers showing support for the Eagles on social media? Plus the Jeffrey Lurie rumors on buying the Boston Celtics

Lurie could step in and be the savior Sixers fans have been waiting for. Imagine the harmony in South Philly if the Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies were all owned by people who actually care about the city and its fans. Lurie already runs the Eagles with a level of class and commitment to winning that Harris could only dream of. Why not extend that magic to the hardwood?

Jeffrey Lurie needs to buy the Philadelphia 76ers

Here’s an idea: Lurie should pick up the phone and call John Middleton, the Phillies’ owner, to orchestrate a plan to push Harris out. The Sixers deserve better, and Philly fans deserve an owner who is invested in the success of the team, not just their bottom line.

Middleton and Lurie could make it happen, and the city would rejoice.

Buying the Celtics would make sense for Lurie on paper—he’s a Boston native, after all. But as far as Philly fans are concerned, that would feel like a betrayal. This city has embraced Lurie as one of its own since he purchased the Eagles in 1994. He has delivered a Super Bowl, maintained a winning culture, and always prioritized the fans. That kind of leadership is exactly what the Sixers need.

So instead of crossing enemy lines to Boston, Lurie should focus on fixing what’s broken at home. Philly sports fans want ownership that shares their passion and lives for championships, not one that’s busy buying every sports franchise under the sun (cough Joshua Harris cough).

Jeffrey Lurie swooping in to buy the 76ers wouldn’t just be a power move—it would cement his legacy as the ultimate Philadelphia sports owner. The city is ready for Harris to sell, and Lurie has the resources, the passion, and the trust of Philly fans to step in and restore faith in the Sixers.

Do the right thing, Jeffrey. Call Harris, write the check, and keep Philly sports in the hands of people who actually care. The city deserves it.
