With the Eagles up 40-22 and less than three minutes left, Jalen Hurts took a well-earned breather while Pickett stepped in to finish the job. The former Steelers QB handed the ball off a few times, then kneeled it out to officially secure Philadelphia’s second Lombardi Trophy.

A Legendary Stat Line
Kenny Pickett’s final numbers from Super Bowl LIX:
- 0/1 passing
- Three carries for -4 yards

Kenny Pickett put up a more respectable QBR than Patrick Mahomes. Truly, iconic.
Twitter had a field day, with fans joking about Pickett now being a Super Bowl champion and “playing a pivotal role” in the game. Honestly, I don’t even think it’s a joke. When you have the opportunity to send out your backup quarterback to kill the clock in the Super Bowl, of all games, then it’s basically sending out a guy to dance on the opposing team’s grave.

Kenny Pickett demanded a trade from a struggling organization, and went and won a Super Bowl with his childhood team. What a genius move.

That’s exactly what the Eagles did and really, exactly what happened throughout last night’s wire-to-wire Super Bowl win.

Jokes aside, Pickett did have a role on this team. After being traded from Pittsburgh in the offseason, he settled in as Jalen Hurts’ backup, seeing real action in Week 16 after Hurts went down with a concussion. He even had a pair of passing touchdowns and a rushing score during the regular season.
Of course, Super Bowl MVP Hurts was the real story, throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns while adding 72 rushing yards and another score. But when it came time for victory formation, it was Kenny Pickett—yes, Kenny Pickett—who took the final snap of Super Bowl LIX.
