Darius Slay shares goodbye message to Philly, officially signs with the Pittsburgh Steelers
The Philadelphia Eagles and Darius Slay have officially parted ways. After five years locking down receivers in South Philly, the veteran corner is taking his talents to Pittsburgh for what looks like one final season before hanging up the cleats.
Just so we’re all on the same page, Darius Slay was an absolute beast on the field for the Eagles. He provided stability at the cornerback position for the first time in what felt like a decade for the Birds and for that, we will always be grateful.
At the same time, I think we’re also in agreement that fans (including myself) were all a bit tired of the podcast clips popping up after a tough loss, where Slay would flex his stats instead of owning up to the team’s struggles as a captain on defense.
No doubt, that rubbed fans the wrong way.
Still, like a true professional, Darius Slay made sure to show love to the city that helped him win a Super Bowl. He hopped on Instagram to say his goodbyes after signing a one-year deal with the Steelers and made it clear he’s got nothing but respect for Philly on his way out.

Slay wasn’t just another guy in an Eagles uniform—he was a cornerstone of the defense. Over five seasons, he racked up three Pro Bowl nods, nine interceptions, and 56 pass deflections while starting 73 games. He came in as a shutdown corner and left as a champion. That’s a legacy worth remembering.
What’s Next for Slay in Pittsburgh?
Now, Slay is heading to the AFC North, where he’ll try to bring some veteran stability to a Steelers secondary featuring young standout Joey Porter Jr. He’s the latest experienced corner to line up opposite Porter, following Patrick Peterson and Donte Jackson. Pittsburgh is banking on Slay’s leadership and playmaking ability to elevate their secondary into an elite unit in 2025.
But let’s be real—no matter what he does in Pittsburgh, Slay will always be an Eagle.
Now that it’s official, I’m perfectly fine with talking shit about the Steelers. Let’s not pretend like Pittsburgh is a dream destination. They’re the second-best team in Pennsylvania at best, and that’s being generous.
This is a team with quarterback issues and it looks like they’ll spend the majority of the offseason debating whether Russell Wilson should still be the guy under center or if they should try to track down Aaron Rodgers and pull him out of an ayahuasca trip to play quarterback for at least one more season.
The Steelers can hype up their “culture” all they want, but without a real QB, they’re just spinning their wheels.
Have fun with that, Slay.
Darius Slay helped bring a championship to this city, and for that, he’s forever part of Philly lore. I just hope he doesn’t expect any love if he ever comes back to the Linc wearing black and yellow.
