In a corresponding move, INF Scott Kingery has been designated for assignment.
The Philadelphia Phillies thought they had a franchise cornerstone when they selected Scott Kingery in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft.
Coming off an impressive season as the Pac-12 Player of the Year at the University of Arizona and a standout performance in the Cape Cod League, Kingery seemed like a lock to be a future star.
Obviously, the majority of TLL readers know by now that I wholeheartedly believe Scott Kingery’s time within the Philadelphia Phillies organization started out promising and ended in a blatant hostage crisis.
Hostage Crisis: Scott Kingery needs to be on the Phillies 40-man and major league roster immediately
Last season, Scott Kingery was trapped in Triple A jail at the hands of the Phillies. It was clear as day that the Phillies had given up on him, regardless of the numbers he put up in Lehigh Valley and the fact that he was the best “utility” option that the team had available.
Scott Kingery 2024 / Career Statistics:

Kingery hit .268 with an .804 OPS in Triple A last season. He hit 25 dingers to go along with 67 RBI and 25 stolen bases. He posted 124 hits and 73 runs scored in 463 at-bats in Lehigh Valley while taking home the IronPigs’ Hitter of the Year Award.

Scott Kingery will probably sign with ANYONE BUT the Phillies
2025 Spring Training hasn’t been kind to Scott Kingery. In 26 at-bats, he hit just .138 with four runs scored and 2 RBI.
After the Phillies organization completely derailed his entire career, there’s absolutely no shot that Scott Kingery would return to the Phillies but I am begging him to reconsider. The Phillies need a right-handed bat that can also play the outfield and if you stop and think about it, Scott Kingery is really the perfect fit.
This was shaping up to be a decent opportunity for Kingery to carve out a role. The Angels rotated through a few different second basemen last season—Brandon Drury and Michael Stefanic saw the most action, but it wasn’t exactly a locked-down position. If there was ever a roster in need of some versatility, it’s this one.
But instead, it looks like washed Tim Anderson, the former White Sox shortstop, will make the Opening Day roster after coming to camp on a minor-league deal. Anderson struggled badly last season, but apparently, the Angels saw enough to give him a shot over Kingery.
For Kingery, it’s another tough break in what’s been a brutal fall from grace. Once thought to be a cornerstone for the Phillies, only to have the organization kill his career, is now in search of a new home.
Scotty Jetpax deserved better.
