Post-Super Bowl Mock Drafters: Eagles’ Early Targets Revealed

Following the Eagles Super Bowl victory, mock drafters emerge like a Punxsutawney Phil seeing if spring is around the corner. Usually, it is not. Their initial mock drafts usually serve as hype vehicles for certain players, but they shouldn’t be taken seriously, especially considering the ongoing chaos of NFL Free Agency.

So, here is who your favorite Mock Drafter has the Super Bowl 59 Champions taking as their NFL season is just beginning as some Eagles early targets for April.

Mel Kiper (ESPN): DT Walter Nolen, Ole Miss

Kiper is on his third mock draft of the spring, which I think is cause for a wellness check. Eagles fans expect a pick in the trenches, as this would be Howie Roseman’s third defensive tackle in the past four years.

With Milton Williams signed to the Patriots, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound rookie adds another behemoth to an already stacked interior defensive line. At only 21 years old, Nolen is not the most polished defensive tackle but definitely stands out on tape as the most physically gifted. The Ole Miss product literally throws linemen out of the way to make tackles. He excels defending the run but can turn into an impactful rusher given time and reps during the offseason.

Daniel Jeremiah (NFL): EDGE Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M

It makes sense that mock drafters immediately choose a replacement for a player who has left the team. With Josh Sweat in Arizona, Daniel Jeremiah went exactly there and had the Eagles select Texas A&M edge rusher Shemar Stewart.

The 6-foot-6 Texas A&M rusher is another high-potential prospect who played only 37 games in three years, just like potential tandem rusher Nolan Smith. Stewart is similar to Nolan in that he’s one of the more physically gifted athletes in the draft but needs work on his technique. I’ll take one of the better athletes in the draft who can work relentlessly on his game to get better every day of the week.

Charles McDonald (Yahoo Sports): OT Josh Conerly Jr, Oregon

McDonald clearly used Lane Johnson’s imminent retirement to make his selection here which is not a terrible thought process. However, there are several other tackles I would take if available, including Grey Zabel from North Dakota State and Josh Simmons from Ohio State.

However, that is simply because I watched the potential number one overall pick, Abdul Carter, make him look like a tackling dummy. So, I am biased but at 6-foot-4 and 315 pounds, the former Duck can move and has long arms to keep defenders at bay. He needs to grind more in the film and weight room, which seemed to happen last year. If he can become a training facility junkie, Conerly Jr can turn into an impact zone blocker.

Rob Rang (FOX Sports): TE Coleston Loveland, Michigan

I had the Michigan tight end on my pre-season big board just behind Tyler Warren and boy, how I wished those draft positions switched. Loveland would be a home run consolation prize if the Eagles decide to go with a tight end to pair with Goedert.

At 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, Loveland lined up 75 times as an in-line tight end and 110 snaps as a slot receiver. The kid has magnets for hands and precise route runner. Last season, Coleston caught 56 passes with only two drops and five touchdowns. The defense won the Super Bowl by stifling Patrick Mahomes, but adding more offensive weapons is like getting sprinkles, it has to be the right time.
