PFF names Eagles pass catcher as team’s best trade asset

It’s no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles are shopping tight end Dallas Goedert this offseason.

Entering the final year of his contract and now on the wrong side of 30, moving on from Dallas Goedert makes sense. While he’s been a reliable pass catcher, he never quite reached the level of production that Zach Ertz achieved before him. Goedert’s best season came in 2021, when he recorded 56 receptions for 830 yards and four touchdowns.

Given the current direction of the offense — with a heavy focus on the run game and getting the ball to the team’s top two wide receivers — Goedert no longer fits the system. He’s not worth a sizable contract extension if he’s no longer a focal point in the offense.

Pro Football Focus recently identified each team’s top trade asset heading into draft season, and unsurprisingly, Dallas Goedert was named the Eagles’ most valuable piece.

PFF on why Goedert is the Eagles best trade asset:

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman might be the most forward-thinking executive in the sport, which is why it’s not surprising to see him reportedly engage in trade discussions for Goedert.

The 30-year-old tight end was productive yet again for Philadelphia last year, producing a 75.8 PFF receiving grade with 6.6 yards after the catch per reception. At the same time, he played in only 14 of 20 games due to a knee injury and will be a free agent in 2026. There’s a good chance the Eagles will trade Goedert before the draft and select a tight end on Day 2 or 3.

If and when the Eagles trade Dallas Goedert, expectations for a major return should be tempered. At best, they might land a fourth-round pick this year and potentially another fourth-rounder next year.

With the depth of talent in this year’s tight end class, most teams are more likely to draft a younger, cheaper option than trade for a 30-year-old veteran who will soon need a new contract.

All things considered, the timing and market conditions suggest the Eagles are more likely to prioritize cap flexibility and future draft capital over maximizing immediate value in a Goedert deal.
