Alex Bump Flyers Prospect

Flyers prospect Alex Bump recognized as NCHC Forward of the Year

There’s very little “good news” coming from the Philadelphia Flyers nowadays and in truth, most of the season has been going straight to calendar sim like we’re all playing NHL Franchise Mode, just fast-forwarding through the remaining games in the regular season and hoping we see as many losses pop up on our televisions as physically possible.

Philadelphia dropped its 10th loss in the last 11 games (1-9-1) in a 7-4 mess against the Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon.

This wasn’t some unlucky, hard-fought effort. It was sloppy, uninspired, and another nail in the coffin of the 2024-25 campaign. And just in case you’re counting, the Flyers have now allowed 45 goals over that 11-game stretch while scoring just 19.

But through the fire and flames that engulf the Philadelphia Flyers, there is some good hockey being played by one of their prospects. Alex Bump out in Western Michigan has been incredible, which should give all Flyers fans a sliver of excitement as he continue to walk to our death watching the pro club lose night in and night out.

Flyers Prospect Watch: Alex Bump

In 36 games, Alex Bump put up 20 goals and 22 assists. Seven of those goals came off of the power-play showing that Bump has been a consistent standout in camp for his size and puck handling ability.

Alex Bump a true puck carrying machine, able to drive offense on his own in a fashion somewhat similar to Owen Tippett. Though the hope is that he’s a little more shotgun and a little less blunderbuss.

Alex Bump is a playmaker

He certainly plays a more cerebral game than Tippett, preferring give and go’s in transition to a straight-ahead game.

The Flyers have lauded his pro-ready frame as well as his pro-ready game. I wouldn’t call him a defensive wizard, but I think they’re referring to his ability to get the puck off of the wall and start both the breakout and down-low offensive sequences- massive parts of a professional winger’s game.

He should be receiving an ELC when his team is eliminated from the playoffs, likely soon. At that point, I’d expect him to suit up for the Flyers.
