Eagles bring back a former Chip Kelly assistant, finalize 2025 Coaching Staff

The Eagles announced their full 2025 coaching staff on Friday morning, and the headliner is the return of Greg Austin as assistant offensive line coach.

If the name rings a bell, it should — Greg Austin began his coaching career under Chip Kelly at Oregon in 2010 before following him to the Eagles in 2013 where he coached until 2015 before making stops at Central Florida, his alma mater Nebraska and Florida International.

Austin now returns to the Eagles after a two-year stint with Doug Pederson in Jacksonville, who notably replaced Chip in Philly and again, brought Austin to the Birds in the first place.

With T.J. Paganetti leaving to join Kellen Moore’s Saints staff as run game coordinator, Austin slides into that crucial assistant spot next to Stoutland. Paganetti was a solid right-hand man, but make no mistake — when it comes to Philly’s offensive line, the tone starts and ends at Stoutland U.

The New Faces

A few other new names pop up on the official release, including:

• Montgomery VanGorder, offensive quality control coach. The name alone sounds like a guy who brings handwritten notes to staff meetings and tells Sirianni to “trust the process” without a hint of irony. He’s spent the last six years on Kirby Smart’s staff at Georgia. If you’re going to raid a college program, Georgia’s a good place to start.
  
• Cole Peterson, assistant to the head coach. He comes from UAB and Youngstown State, where he worked under Trent Dilfer and coordinated football operations, respectively. In other words, he knows how to juggle 30 things at once, deal with football egos, and probably has a spreadsheet for everything — a useful dude to have in the building.
