Freddie Freeman slips in the shower, hits the injured list ahead of weekend series against the Phillies
Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers’ World Series hero and walking 3-hit machine, is on the injured list… because he took a spill trying to take a shower. You read that right. One of baseball’s most consistent and durable superstars got tripped up by a wet floor.
The Dodgers officially placed Freeman on the 10-day IL Thursday with a right ankle injury, retroactive to March 31.
He hasn’t played in the last three games — all wins for the 8-0 Dodgers, by the way — and the injury itself has the kind of detail that you almost hope no one leaks to the press but Freddie, being the stand-up guy he is, told everyone exactly what happened: he slipped trying to get into the shower and tweaked the same ankle he had surgically repaired this offseason. Brutal.

This is the same ankle Freeman famously played through during L.A.’s championship run last fall. The guy limped his way through October and still hit .400. He had surgery in December, looked good in spring, and was cruising… until, well, his ankle met tile. Nature is undefeated.
Freddie Freeman, now 35, was hoping to be back by Wednesday.
That didn’t happen, and now we’re looking at a minimum of another week on the sidelines. Normally, this would be a blow to any team — your MVP first baseman and hitting machine but with the depth that the Dodgers have, it’s like they don’t even miss him.
Still, you have to wonder how fragile that ankle is at this point. This wasn’t a 98 mph fastball off the foot or an awkward slide at second. It was a bathroom floor. You have to imagine L.A.’s training staff is now handing out non-slip bath mats like sunflower seeds.
If there’s any silver lining, it’s that the Dodgers can afford to be cautious. But this might be a situation to monitor all year. An aging Freddie Freeman with an ankle held together by bubble gum and surgical tape isn’t ideal when you’re chasing another ring.
I will say, that the Dodgers beating up on the Atlanta Braves doesn’t impress me in the slightest. The Braves are dead men walking and we just entered April. We’ll see how Los Angeles holds up this weekend against a real baseball team.
The 0-7 Atlanta Braves are on pace to be the worst team in MLB history and I couldn’t be happier
Good News for the Philadelphia Phillies
Freddie Freeman has a batting average of .295 with 228 hits, 33 home runs, 133 RBIs and 137 runs scored in 213 games versus the Phillies in his career. He will not be available this weekend when the Dodgers head to South Philly for a three-game set against The Fightins.
The Phillies keep the homestand rolling with a weekend set against the the Paper Tigers, Los Angeles Dodgers. Jesus Luzardo will get things going tomorrow night, with Aaron Nola scheduled to go Saturday. Cristopher Sanchez will close out the series on Sunday.
