Make It Stop: Worst Eagles Draft Take of All Time Courtesy of None Other Than Joe Giglio

With the NFL Draft just under two weeks away, the hot takes, mock drafts, and wild predictions are flying all over the place. And our reigning, defending, Super Bowl Champion Eagles? Yeah, they’ve got the last pick in the first round — because, in case anyone forgot, they won the whole damn thing. Remember that?

They didn’t just win it. They dominated in every facet of the game against one of — if not the — greatest head coach and quarterback duos of all time. Obviously, the Eagles lost a few key players in free agency, and with the current cap situation (which anyone with a functioning brain understands), it was clear that Howie Roseman would need to shift his focus to the NFL Draft and replace those losses with some young, cost-controlled talent.

Anyway, I was just trying to survive this rainy, miserable Friday, when I made the mistake of opening Twitter — only to see good ole Joe Giglio firing off his usual garbage hot takes right on schedule. Completely on brand for the same guy who’s been crying for years that the Eagles should’ve taken Micah Parsons over DeVonta Smith.

Joe Giglio with arguably the worst Eagles draft take of all time

Let me be crystal clear: I love Abdul Carter. Philly kid. Roman Catholic. Bleeds green already. Wears No. 11 like a menace. The dude is an absolute freak at linebacker. But trading an entire draft class for one linebacker? What is this, Madden Franchise Mode on rookie settings?

Joe Giglio doesn’t know how Howie Roseman operates somehow

Giglio tried to justify it by saying the No. 2 pick in the draft would come with a “four-year, $39 million contract,” and that somehow makes it a bargain. Yeah, cool. I like cheap talent too. You know where you get cheap talent? With EIGHT draft picks. Not one.

The whole point of drafting well is to flood your roster with multiple affordable contributors. Think about last year: Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, Zack Baun, — Need I say more? You’re telling me you’d rather have just one guy and four fifth-rounders vanish into thin air?

Howie Roseman Has a Plan — and It Doesn’t Involve Drafting Like a Madman

Let’s be real — there’s still a great chance Howie Roseman is going to move around the board like the absolute wizard he is. This guy doesn’t sit still. Whether it’s sliding back a few spots to pick up more draft capital or jumping up if an elite talent starts to fall, you can bet your last Wawa hoagie that Howie has five different scenarios mapped out on his draft board. The man lives for this stuff. He said it himself, he bleeds for this city. Joe Giglio? Not so much.

And if a Pro Bowl-level player suddenly hits the trade market? Don’t be surprised if Howie flips a mid-round pick to land an impact guy at a discount. That’s how you win in today’s NFL — smart, flexible roster-building. Not by throwing away an entire draft class for one linebacker, no matter how talented or local he may be.

My theory: Joe Giglio is secretly rooting against the Eagles

At the end of the day, the objective is simple: win back-to-back Super Bowls. That’s it. That’s the mission. Howie Roseman isn’t out here playing Madden with the trade settings turned off — he’s building a dynasty. You need depth, cheap contracts, and a steady stream of young talent to stay on top. Trading away an entire draft class flies in the face of everything the Eagles have built.

Honestly, I’m starting to think Joe Giglio dropped this take because he’s secretly not even an Eagles fan. He wants this team to fail so he can hop on the radio and be the same tired, negative voice he’s been for years. That’s his whole brand — doom, gloom, and anti-Philly energy dressed up as “realism.” It’s lazy, it’s tired, and most importantly, it’s just flat-out wrong.
