Cristopher Sánchez shoves, Phillies blast out of the gate in Series Finale win over Giants
Cristopher Sánchez gave the Phillies everything they needed — and then some — in Thursday’s 6-4 win over the Giants to salvage a split in the four-game series. A career-high 12 strikeouts and seven innings of work? Not bad for your No. 4 starter.
The big lefty was flat-out nasty, spinning changeups like a magician on the corner of Kensington and Allegheny. He got 11 of his 12 punchouts with the changeup alone, throwing 50 of them on 97 total pitches. San Francisco never had a chance.

A First-Inning Avalanche
If you showed up late to Citizens Bank Park, you might’ve missed the action. The Phillies exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first after falling behind 1-0.
The first five batters reached safely, and before anyone could blink, Kyle Schwarber knocked in two with a single, Nick Castellanos followed with an RBI knock of his own, and Jordan Hicks chucked a wild pitch to make it 4-1.

Then Alec Bohm — yes, the same Bohm who’s been drawing challenge gestures and umpire stares all week — ripped a triple to dead center that should have been caught. Instead, Luis Matos dropped it at the track, and the Phillies cashed in their fifth run of the inning.

Sánchez Dominates, Alvarado Closes
Cristopher Sánchez cruised through seven, scattering four hits and just one walk. His only real blemish came on a Matt Chapman two-run homer in the sixth, but by then, the Phillies had control.
José Alvarado gave up a solo shot to Tyler Fitzgerald in the ninth but locked things down for his fourth save.
Quick Hits:
- Edmundo Sosa came on for Castellanos (hip flexor tightness) and delivered a sac fly in the eighth.
- Chapman was red hot in the series: 7-for-16 after entering 0-for-22. He owned Phillies pitching all week.
- The Phillies haven’t lost a home series since being swept by the Yankees last July.
Up Next:
- Zack Wheeler vs. Sandy Alcantara kicks off a weekend set with the Marlins at Citizens Bank Park on Friday night.
The Phillies are back in the win column, the home dominance rolls on, and Cristopher Sánchez might just be turning into a legitimate threat in the NL Cy Young race.
