Les Bowen calls out 94WIP for making up stories and talking about nonsense

94WIP is not a serious source of news. I hope most people understand that by now, but evidently, fans still give Philly’s flagship sports station more credit than they deserve.

The barrage of misguided speculation regarding our city’s sports teams is exhausting to listen to. It’s fine entertainment, I guess. But I’ll never cite one of their hosts as a legitimate source of information.

This time of year is when 94WIP usually goes on a full-blown speculation rampage. The Phillies are just getting started, the NFL Draft is around the corner, and neither the Sixers nor Flyers draw enough interest to be worth talking about.

It feels like things have hit a fever pitch lately, especially when it comes to the Eagles. In a desperate attempt to boost ratings, multiple hosts on the station have wasted airtime floating the idea of trading AJ Brown or DeVonta Smith to move up in the first round. It’s a completely baseless narrative, dreamed up by people who clearly don’t know football well enough to say anything of substance.

And people are starting to catch on. Les Bowen, a former Eagles reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer, called the station out on their nonsense.

Bowen isn’t taking 94WIP’s shit anymore

Ike Reese responded to this by telling Bowen “to be better.” When confronted by another Tweeter about how preposterous this trade speculation is, Reese just told them to “ignore it.”

Reese isn’t the only one who does this kind of stuff, and honestly, he’s far from the most egregious. Joe Giglio takes the cake there, spewing the dumbest shit you’ll ever hear for the sake of the almighty click.

This week, he paraded around the same made-up story. The best part, he actually agreed with it.

Joe Giglio talking Eagles is the equivalent of a 3rd grader talking geopolitics

If you waste your time listening to these guys talk about sports, you’ll notice a trend. None of the 94WIP hosts actually know anything about NFL draft prospects, players the team is acquiring through free agency, or really how the business of how football works.

Every time they want to actually get into an informative conversation, they bring on someone else to carry the load. Eliot Shorr-Parks, Reuben Frank, and Ray Didinger are frequent guests on 94WIP throughout the NFL offseason. Why? Because they actually know what they’re talking about. They’re not beholden to views (although ESP kind of is but I respect his takes so he gets a pass). Those guys only care about getting stories correct and talking about things that may actually happen, not some weird narrative that has no substance behind it.

TLL’s own Victor Williams decided to do some digging into this trade talk. According to his sources, the Eagles have never even considered trading either Brown or Smith.

If you’re into 94WIP, I get it. It’s fun to toss around ridiculous hypotheticals every now and then — my friends and I do it pretty much every time we hang out. The difference is, these hosts aren’t just casually shooting the shit. They’re insulting your intelligence on purpose, throwing out nonsense they know you’ll click on just so they can cash a check.

They’re making money off this stuff, while you and your boys are just talking wild trades in someone’s basement for fun.

If you respect yourself, stop giving these bozos time you’ll never get back.
