Jalen Hurts

Spike Eskin hates Jalen Hurts so much he can’t even let the man make the TIME100 in peace

For those who no longer tune into Philadelphia sports talk radio ( I don’t blame you), Spike Eskin has been one of Jalen Hurts’ biggest detractors. And of course, he couldn’t help but spew an absolutely ridiculous take after the Eagles quarterback was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world.

Oh shut the hell up, Spike.

Every time this city rallies behind a guy, you crawl out of your little WIP hole to spew some half-baked contrarian garbage for clicks. Jalen Hurts just led the Eagles to a Super Bowl win, earned MVP, and made the Time 100 as one of the most influential people on the planet — not just athletes — and your first instinct is to tear it down?

This city deserves better than your tired-ass act. Hurts has been nothing but the definition of class, leadership, and work ethic since Day 1. He bounced back from college heartbreak, silenced every doubter in the NFL, and became a symbol of perseverance on and off the field — but hey, sorry he didn’t make your personal list of “top 100 analytics darlings who throw the football the exact way you like.”

Take a lap Spike. Your season-long hatred towards Jalen Hurts fell miserably on it’s face as he delivered a Super Bowl and won SB MVP. This was you last desperate attempt at trying to prove a point about Hurts, but in reality it just makes you look like a total moron. And all the lovely fans of this Eagles team have caught on to this old, tired act.

Aside from the obvious, here’s why Jalen Hurts made this list

Jalen is just a really freakin cool dude. I mean he’s the modern face of the Jordan Brand and everyone in the city and throughout the country have been trying to get ahold of those “Love Hurts” Jordan hoodies. I in fact saw a couple of them as I was walking into the Phillies-Dodgers series finale a few Sundays ago.

Speaking of merchandise, Jalen was among the top 3 in NFL jersey sales this past season as well. And while this doesn’t compare to the person and athlete he is, it only adds to his impressive resume, further backing his place on this list.

Did I mention the NFL chose hims as the athlete to represent the new flag football Olympic commercial? Sounds pretty influential to me.

Now, for what truly matters here. This is what Derek Jeter wrote about Hurts:

“I admire how great athletes deal with both success and failure. What Jalen Hurts went through in being benched during the 2018 National Championship game would break a lot of people down. But not Jalen; he focused on what he could control and found a new path to success. In the NFL, Jalen didn’t let a Super Bowl defeat in 2023 shake his confidence. He used that loss as motivation and kept a picture of himself walking off the field after losing as his phone lock screen.

“This past February, Jalen found himself on the Super Bowl stage again. This time he led Philadelphia to a convincing victory in its rematch with Kansas City. We connected shortly after, and the only thing he asked about was insight on going back and winning again. Sometimes people win, then exhale. Jalen is not exhaling. He’s embracing the next challenge. Win or lose, Jalen’s resilience and determination offer all of us something to admire.”

Jalen Hurts wasn’t just tossed onto TIME’s list as some token athlete — he landed in the Icons category. You know, alongside names like Demi Moore, Adrien Brody, Bobbi Brown, and a bunch of other global heavyweights you’ve definitely heard of (or at least pretended to know at some point). It’s a short list of absolute legends… and our quarterback is right there with them.
