Tyrone Johnson OUT at 97.5 The Fanatic after hosting ‘The Best Show Ever?’
Another one bites the dust at The Fanatic. Tyrone Johnson, host of The Best Show Ever?, is officially out after just shy of three years running the afternoon drive.
Tyrone Johnson announced his departure Friday evening on social media, ending a run that, if we’re being honest, always felt like it was on borrowed time.
Tyrone Johnson out at 97.5 The Fanatic
According to Radio Wars experts over at Crossing Broad, the writing was on the wall for a while. Beasley reportedly made the decision to move on from Tyrone months ago — they just needed to line up the timing.
There had been plenty of behind-the-scenes chatter about possible changes at PM drive, and the station’s decision-makers had quietly been exploring replacements before pulling the trigger.
Tyrone’s radio story with The Fanatic was a wild one. He worked his way up from Mike Missanelli’s producer and sidekick, eventually taking over the main chair after Missanelli’s infamous messy exit in 2022.
The Best Show Ever? launched with Tyrone, Jen Scordo, Hunter Brody, and Ricky Bottalico. Brody got laid off not even a year later (he’s at WIP now), Scordo was let go in 2024, and the show morphed into the latest version with Ricky Bo and previous Liberty Line content creator, Sylvana Kelleher holding it down.
Despite the chaos, the show actually did… fine.
The Best Show Ever? was never going to catch WIP’s afternoon dominance, but compared to the rest of The Fanatic’s lineup, it consistently held its own. Tyrone’s show often pulled better or equal ratings than the morning and midday blocks, especially with men 25-54 — the key demo that matters most.
Still, when Joe Bell left and Scott Masteller and Paul Blake took over, it was clear new management wanted their own fingerprints on everything. Tyrone was promoted under the old regime. The new bosses were always going to eventually make their own moves, and today was just another step.
Listen, I could sit here and write about all the dumb shit that Tyrone Johnson said over the years but that’s not really the point of this article. Yes, we’ve trashed him at any chance we got over the years but we’re talking about someone’s job and whenever someone gets let go, that’s pretty shitty regardless of the sports opinions that were given on the airwaves.
Plus, the entire state of Philly Sports Talk Radio is absolute shit. There’s a couple guys out there still carrying their weight (Andrew Salciunas specifically) but outside of that, is anyone actually happy with the product we are getting?
I think the majority of listeners would say no.
Former Fanatic host Pat Egan (who got caught in the last round of layoffs) also showed support online. It’s a rough business — radio always has been — and nobody knows that better than the folks who’ve been through it.
I always liked Pat Egan. Seems like a solid dude and I have no doubt whatever program director he’s talking about is overpaid. That’s pretty much a given when you look at the situation 97.5 The Fanatic finds themselves in, right?
Either way, I like the fight from Egan here, even if it’s defense of Tyrone Johnson.
Where Tyrone lands next is anyone’s guess. But based on the way the radio landscape looks right now, we’re probably going to be hearing from him again before too long.
Meanwhile, The Fanatic is left searching — again — for someone to save their afternoon drive.
Good luck with that.
Feel free to give The Liberty Line a call. You take Crossing Broad and The Liberty Line and give them free range to go crazy on the radio and you’ll absolutely destroy 94.1 WIP and whatever nonsense is happening on their station. We’re talking hundreds of thousands of followers across social media and millions of readers a month.

Good luck Tyrone. And goodbye to the fanatic. I’ll just go back to watching westerns on MeTv!
Best of luck Tyrone. You brought a lot of knowledge and swag to the show. We’ll be watching for your return.
Tyrone will be back ,,, Not watching the new train wreck
