Phillies Legend Jayson Werth absolutely torches Mets fans: “I Have No Respect”
Jayson Werth just made sure that the Phillies-Mets rivalry is truly back. Not that it ever really went anywhere — but after the Mets embarrassed the Phillies in the NLDS last fall and then swept them again last week at Citi Field, the hate is flowing like it’s 2007 all over again.
Jayson Werth: Straight Shooter
Werth, one of the great playoff heroes in Phillies history, was a guest on the BSBLR Show podcast this week and did not mince words when it came to Mets fans.
“If you live in New York, you have a choice. You have an obvious choice. You can either be a fan of one of the most storied franchises, one of the greatest franchises in sports history… or the Mets.”
And then he really let it fly:
“I have no respect for people that pick the Mets.”
No Lies Detected
Honestly? Jayson Werth’s not wrong.
If you live in New York and willingly choose to root for the Mets instead of the Yankees, that’s a bold life decision. And by bold, I mean questionable at best. Sure, some people like to root for the underdog — but calling a team with a $273 million payroll an “underdog” is hilarious.
For reference:
- Phillies 2025 Payroll (Active): $275 million (highest in baseball)
- Mets 2025 Payroll (Active): $274 million (second-highest)
- Yankees 2025 Payroll (Active): $166 million (seventh-highest)
Not exactly David vs. Goliath energy.
And don’t even get started on the trophy case comparison:
- Yankees: 27 World Series titles
- Mets: 2 World Series titles
Being a Mets fan is basically choosing eternal pain and heartbreak. Werth just said what a lot of people have been thinking for decades.
Between Jayson Werth’s comments and the recent bad blood on the field, the Phillies-Mets rivalry is officially back at full tilt. This summer is going to be spicy — and it’s only April.
Mark your calendars now:
- The Phillies and Mets don’t meet again until June 17–19 at Citizens Bank Park.
- After that, they clash four more times in September, right in the middle of the playoff race.
Jayson Werth might not have played a game for the Phillies in over a decade, but he still knows exactly how to push the right buttons. Go Birds. Go Phils. Beat New York.
