Phillies Rotation: Ranger Suárez confirmed back, will start Sunday vs D-Backs
The Phillies are heating up, the bats are cooking, and now the rotation is back to full strength. Rob Thomson confirmed after Wednesday night’s 7-2 win that Ranger Suárez will officially make his return to the starting rotation this Sunday.
Ranger Suárez, who had been out with lower back tightness since Spring Training, looked “really good” in his bullpen session at Citizens Bank Park.
Ranger Suárez returns Sunday
The team had been toying with the idea of giving him one more rehab start in Triple-A, but after what they saw Wednesday, they’re done waiting. Suárez—who had a 1.75 ERA through 15 starts before his injury last year—joins the mix. The lefty is ready, and he’s taking the ball this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Citizens Bank Park.
Phillies Rotation This Week:
- Thursday: Taijuan Walker (1-2, 2.78 ERA)
- Friday: Jesús Luzardo
- Saturday: Aaron Nola
- Sunday: Ranger Suárez
The Phillies have been winning with offense lately (four straight, 24 runs in that stretch), but planned or unplanned, this team is built around its rotation.
Kyle Schwarber stays hot, Phillies cruise to 7-2 win over Nationals
With Ranger Suárez coming back, you’ve got three legit lefties in Suárez, Luzardo, and Cristopher Sánchez—all of whom can dominate. Pair that with Nola and Wheeler, and you’re throwing a different look at teams every single night.
They’ll have to make a roster move to clear a spot for Suárez, but that’s tomorrow’s problem.
