Go Birds: Jason Kelce brought the Philly energy to the Truist Championship Pro Am

Listen, no offense to Jason Kelce—we love the guy, and we’re as emotional about his Super Bowl speech as you are—but when The Liberty Line rolled up to Philadelphia Cricket Club on Wednesday for the Truist Championship Pro Am, let’s just say we weren’t exactly following his group play this morning.

The future Hall of Fame center was all vibes, no birdies during his round at Philadelphia Cricket Club. But that didn’t stop the crowd from showing up in force, throwing out nonstop “Go Birds!” chants as Kelce hacked his way through Wissahickon like a true man of the people.

He flubbed a pitch shot into thick rough and shook his head:

“Hey, that’s why I’m an amateur.”

Same, Jason. Same.

Make no mistake—Kelce is taking this new golf grind seriously. Earlier this week, he posted six different angles of his swing to Reddit, crowd-sourcing advice from weekend warriors and teaching pros alike.

“Some of it’s the usual stuff,” Kelce said. “But then I’ll get a reply like, ‘Never thought of it like that.’ That’s the crazy part. I’m learning a lot.”

That humble, head-down approach is exactly what endeared him to Eagles fans during his 13-year run in midnight green. And even in retirement, he’s still connecting with fans just like he did on gamedays—only this time he’s signing golf balls and beer bottles instead of pancake-blocking linebackers.

Kelce even took time to talk shop with 14-year-old Benji Panzer, a middle schooler covering the tournament for a local sports broadcasting camp. When asked about his New Heights podcast with brother Travis, he emphasized how important it is for athletes to engage directly with fans:

“The ability of players to connect with fans directly has never been greater.”

And Jason’s still getting connected—with aluminum beer bottles, Kelly green koozies, and even a Transfusion drink that became part of a hilarious fan interaction. One unlucky (or lucky?) fan caught a sliced tee shot to the wrist and still didn’t spill his drink.

“Didn’t spill the Transfusion,” the fan said proudly. “Chugged it to get healthy. Classic golf drink, you know what I mean?”

Yeah, we know exactly what you mean. Kelce wasn’t naming favorites, but he made it clear that Philly’s got something special going on when it comes to golf:

“Philly is an unbelievable golf hub. There’s a lot of fans in the game. There’s a lot of incredible courses with a lot of history to it.”

Between future majors at Aronimink (2026 PGA) and Merion (2030 U.S. Open), and the return of big-time events like the Truist Championship to Philly Cricket, the city is finally getting the respect it deserves in the golf world.

And don’t rule out Jason Kelce making some noise of his own down the road. With his obsessive work ethic and Philly toughness, don’t be surprised if “Kelce the Golfer” becomes more than just a bit.

For now? Let the man keep flubbing pitch shots and soaking up “Go Birds” energy. Philly fans wouldn’t have it any other way.
