The golf world has discovered Angelo’s cheesesteaks during the Truist Championship and there’s no going back

The PGA Tour is in Philadelphia this week for the Truist Championship, and the players are enjoying all the City of Brotherly Love has to offer. Not only is the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon course a beautiful sight to see, but the golf world has quickly become obsessed with Angelo’s cheesesteaks, and for good reason.

Justin Thomas and round one leader Keith Mitchell were loving their post-round Angelo’s run:

I gotta say, Keith Mitchell deserves a nice cheesesteak after firing an opening round 61. Justin Thomas does as well after a four-under 66.

It’s always great to see Philly get love on a national stage, especially when it comes to the food culture here. A lot of uneducated people like to denigrate the cheesesteak, but when folks from all over the country flock here for an event like the Truist Championship, it pulls the curtain back on how great this city’s signature sandwich is.

But the pros aren’t the only ones enjoying their fill of the best cheesesteak in the city. With a national spectacle comes national media and golf influencers alike, and they, too, have been blessed by the beautiful amalgamation of meat, cheese, and bread that calls our city home.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end, and the PGA Tour will have to leave this sandwich sanctuary city.

However, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. The 2026 PGA Championship will take place at one of my favorite courses in the Philadelphia area: Aronimink Golf Club.

It’s a little further outside the city, but I’m sure an Angelo’s reunion will be in order.
