Rumor: Eagles could deal $51M EDGE to San Francisco due to Robert Saleh ties

The Eagles might be done shuffling the deck when it comes to their offensive weapons — Dallas Goedert’s restructured contract all but confirms that — but the defense? That’s a different story. One name that refuses to go away in the rumor mill is Bryce Huff, and now there’s legitimate smoke around a potential trade to the San Francisco 49ers.

Let’s just call it like it is: Huff hasn’t exactly lived up to the hype since signing his three-year, $51.1 million deal with the Birds this past offseason. He was invisible for most of the playoff run and inactive during the Super Bowl, which is never what you want from one of your top free-agent signings. If you blinked, you might’ve missed his entire postseason.

Now, USA Today’s Cory Woodroof is suggesting a change of scenery might be best for everyone involved — sending Huff out west to the Niners in exchange for a 2026 fifth-rounder and linebacker Robert Beal Jr., who of course checks the only box Howie Roseman cares about anymore: former Georgia Bulldog.

Is Another Eagles Trade Brewing?

The Eagles have done a solid job plugging most of their roster holes, but edge depth remains a bit of a question mark. Trading Huff would thin that group even more unless Beal Jr. somehow develops overnight. But if Huff isn’t in the plans — and if you’re benching him in the Super Bowl, he probably isn’t — getting something in return now makes sense.

Plus, San Francisco’s returning defensive coordinator Robert Saleh knows how to get the most out of Huff. The two worked together in New York, and Saleh was one of the few coaches who actually understood how to deploy him as a situational pass rusher. If there’s a team where Huff could bounce back, it’s the Niners.

From Philly’s perspective, this would free up cap space, bring in a young defensive project, and stockpile another pick for 2026 — which Howie will no doubt use to trade up for a punter with freak athleticism from the SEC.

Dallas Goedert isn’t going anywhere. He took a pay cut to stick around, and the Eagles rewarded him for being a team-first guy. Bryce Huff? Not the same vibe. The writing may already be on the wall, and if it is, don’t be shocked when Huff’s bags are packed for San Fran.

It’s a long offseason, and Howie’s not done cooking.
