Cedric Mullins Phillies Trade

Phillies named as realistic MLB Trade Deadline suitor for Orioles centerfielder Cedric Mullins

The Phillies are cooking again. After a sluggish start to the 2025 season, Philly has rattled off 11 wins in their last 15 games, firmly planting themselves back in the NL East race and right in the thick of things behind the first-place Mets.

If there’s been one consistent theme during this run of postseason appearances, it’s that the Phillies keep rolling out the same core, and when the lights get brightest, the lineup has let them down. The bats that bash all summer have too often gone cold when it matters most.

On MLB Network this week, Morosi floated the Phillies as a realistic landing spot for Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins, who is looking like one of the hottest names on the market — assuming Baltimore continues to spiral into seller territory.

“When you think about the type of player who makes a massive impact at the deadline, it’s this type of player and person,” Morosi said. “You think about the Phillies being a tremendous fit for him.”

Cedric Mullins Could Be the Spark the Phillies Lineup Needs

Cedric Mullins fits like a glove in this Phillies lineup. He’s a proven table-setter, plays legit center field, and brings postseason-ready energy. Through April, Mullins looked like an All-Star, slashing .260/.412/.468 while giving the Orioles whatever life they had in the early going.

Sure, he’s cooled off since but that might actually be to the Phillies’ advantage — if his market softens a bit, Dombrowski could potentially swing a deal without mortgaging the entire farm system.

Cedric Mullins is also on an expiring deal, which is exactly the kind of aggressive, win-now move the Phillies should be looking to make. As much as we love Johan Rojas’ glove, the bat just hasn’t developed. Mullins gives the Phils another dimension of speed, on-base ability, and pop, while also providing defensive stability in center.

Could This Be the Year Dombrowski Finally Shakes Up the Core?

The Phillies didn’t do much to upgrade the outfield this offseason, which has been a sticking point for fans. Adding Mullins at the deadline would not only add balance and athleticism to the lineup, but send a clear message that this front office is willing to shake up the status quo.

As the Phils keep hovering near the top of the division over the next two months, expect the Mullins-to-Philly rumors to heat up. For now, Mullins is a name to circle in red ink as one of the top players who could change the NL playoff picture if he ends up in red pinstripes.
